Greetings!
As we approach the Thanksgiving Break, just a reminder that WUSD students will be off of school the week of November 20. WHS Offices will also be closed the week of November 20. When WHS resumes classes, we will be in the last week of Trimester 1!
We wish everyone a safe hunting season as well as an enjoyable Thanksgiving Holiday!
2023 AP Honor Roll Recognition
Watertown High School is excited to announce that we are being recognized on the 2023 AP School Honor Roll with a Bronze Award! The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access. Schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.
Student Medications
With flu season right around the corner we wanted to send a reminder of the school policies related to student possession of medication at school. Please note, that according to the Board of Education Policy #5412.1, students cannot self-carry medications. The only exception to this are inhalers and epinephrine auto-injectors.
Per school policy: “All over the counter and prescription medications must be brought to the schools by the parent/guardian unless another means of medication drop off is approved by the building administrator and/or district school nurse. All prescription/non-prescription student medications will be stored in a safe and secure area” and, “Students may possess (carry) and use an inhaler or epinephrine auto-injector (e.g. Epipen®) with the written approval of the student’s physician and parent or guardian”.
If you would like for your child to take prescription or non-prescription medications during the school day, we will gladly help support your child’s medical needs. For over the counter medications supplied by student’s parent/guardian, it must be supplied in the original manufacturer’s package and the package lists the ingredients and recommended therapeutic dose in legible format. School personnel may administer non-prescription medication to a student in a dosage other than the recommended therapeutic dose only if the request to do so is accompanied by the written approval of the student’s health care provider. The medication should be labeled with student’s name. For prescription medications, written consent from the student’s parent/guardian must be received to administer medication in the dosage prescribed by a health care provider. The school must receive written instructions from the health care provider regarding the administration of the prescribed medication. This should include medication name, dose, route, frequency, time/conditions, durations, and the healthcare practitioner’s name and contact information. The prescription medication must be supplied to the school in the original pharmacy labeled package specifying student name, name of prescriber, name of drug, dose, effective date, and directions in legible format. Written consent for over-the-counter and prescription medication must be provided each school year, and all over the counter and prescription medications must be brought to the schools by the parent/guardian. The WUSD medication consent form can be found on our school website and is also available in the health room at WHS.
Please either contact the District Nurse, Lynn Gilbert, BSN,RN, NCSN at 920-262-1460 Ext. 3219, or the Health room assistant at 920-262-7500 Ext. 6807. Thank you!

WHS Traffic Reminders
A friendly reminder to use caution and exercise safe driving habits when picking up students after school. Recognizing there is significant traffic outside WHS after school, drivers are encouraged to be patient and polite. WHS administration has received reports of unsafe/inattentive driving during this time and are working on improving the situation.
We understand that pickup time can be frustrating and want to use this opportunity to reinforce the protocols for pickup:
- When approaching the front entrance of the building the two left lanes should only be used to keep traffic moving. The left two lanes should not be used to stop and drop off or pick up students. The far right lane, closest to the school, should be used for stopping and student pickup.
- Driving safe speeds is imperative as the area around WHS, including the drive in the front of the building, is a school zone and subject to reduced speeds for safety reasons.
- Drivers need to signal their intentions for any turning or lane change.
- Note that there are alternate parking areas in the North Parking Lot if families would like to park to pick up their student. Families can also park on the gravel lot on Elm Street and have their student walk to that location.
Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) Testing
The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) test will be offered at WHS on Tuesday, December 12th. Completing the ASVAB provides students with valuable information on vocational aptitudes and career interests and is the assessment used to determine eligibility for specific military occupations. The ASVAB is free and available to sophomores, juniors, and seniors. If you are interested in having your student take the ASVAB test on Tuesday, December 12th, please register them on the google form below.
