The Eagle Eye
May 13, 2021 - Eagle Ridge Academy - Volume 17 | Issue 16
Eagle Ridge Academy is currently in FULL-SCHOOL (GRADES K-12) IN-PERSON LEARNING. Fridays will remain distance learning days. The last day of school for grades K-12 will be Wednesday, June 2.
The Minnesota Department of Health data updated today shows that Hennepin County is currently at 33.08 cases of COVID-19 per 10,000 people, while ERA zip code data is at 38 cases of COVID-19 per 10,000 people. In January, the ERA Board of Directors approved the new Learning Model Decision Making Matrix for grades 6-12. The Decision Making Matrix (DMM) includes and prioritizes data from within our facility versus the Hennepin County case rate alone. The DMM will be updated on Eagle Ridge Academy's website every Friday.

Community Updates: Schools of Logic & Rhetoric
Schools of Logic & Rhetoric Notes - Erin Johnson, Principal
“Every trail has its end, and every calamity brings its lesson!” – James Fenimore Cooper, The Last of the Mohicans
We are coming to a close on a very, very different school year. This trail is ending and this year has taught us many lessons. The most important one that I have seen every day is perseverance. The staff and students at Eagle Ridge Academy have shown true perseverance and dedication this year and I am exceedingly grateful for their passion in doing well, even in times of trial.
We are planning events for the end of the year, including the annual Art Expo and graduation for the Class of 2021. These events might look a bit different from the way they’ve been held in the past, but we have to make modifications in order to ensure safety. Information has been sent from your child(ren)’s art teacher regarding the Expo, and information is being communicated to families of our graduates regarding the graduation ceremony.
We have two items of note for all families in the Schools of Logic and Rhetoric regarding final exams and the last day of school. Finals will be held May 25-27. The final grades will be weighted at 45% 3rd quarter, 45% 4th quarter, 10% final exam, with the option of an appeal for the 40/40/20 breakdown if that would be more beneficial for the student's grades. Please note that the appeal is for School of Rhetoric only. A finals schedule, similar to what we have used in the past, is above.
Students taking AP exams will take them at the scheduled time. If students are missing finals due to AP tests, students will make up the finals:
- During an open period when they do not have a final OR
- Tuesday, June 1. There will be a room and time set aside, with supervision, for students to make up a final exam.
The last day of school for the Schools of Logic and Rhetoric has been changed to Wednesday, June 2. Students will be released at 11:30 a.m.
Sincerely,
Erin Johnson

May 7 was National School Lunch Hero Day
We celebrated our lunch heroes on Thursday, May 6, while the students were in the building. Students surprised our food service team with banners, thank you cards, and art. Our lunch heroes dressed up for the occasion in superhero capes and masks! View more pictures here.
School Lunch Hero Day is a chance to showcase the difference school nutrition professionals make for every child who comes through the cafeteria. The amount of planning and hard work our food service team has done this year to ensure that all of our students have access to school meals is unbelievable and we are so thankful for all that they do.

Support ERA Through Box Tops for Education and Coca-Cola GIVE Programs
Two of the easiest ways to support ERA are the Box Tops for Education and Coca-Cola GIVE programs.
It only takes minutes to get the Box Tops app on your phone and set up your account. Then you’re ready to scan the receipt every time you buy groceries. The app automatically finds eligible items and credits them to ERA! It’s that easy, and anyone can do it—grandparents, neighbors, and friends!
To contribute through Coca-Cola GIVE, Simply look for a code on Coke products. It can be found under screw-on tops or inside the box. When you see one, head to https://us.coca-cola.com/give/schools/ and search for Eagle Ridge Academy. Enter or scan the code and you’re done!

Over 1,500 Pounds of Food Donated During April's "Donate for Donuts" Food Drive!
Over 1,500 pounds of food was donated during the Eagle Ridge Academy National Honor Society's "Donate for Donuts" food drive!
"The NHS did this food drive in order to help our community in this trying time. We know that because of COVID-19, food insecurity has gone up in our community, and we wanted to do something about that. We chose to do the drive through VEAP because of its direct connections with the community around the twin cities metro area," said sophomore Kirsten T., the organizer of the event.
Students in grades 6-12 were encouraged to bring in non-perishable food items during the entire month of April. The homeroom that collected the most food at the end of the month was treated to YoYo Donuts. Ms. Wagner's sixth grade homeroom won the donut prize, mainly due to the efforts of sixth grader Sydney S. Sydney took it upon herself to call several local grocery stores and ask personally for donations, which led to her collecting over 1,000 food items. "At first, I kind of wanted to get the donuts. But then I realized that I kind of want to help people who need food. I like doing it; I think I might do this for quite a few years because it makes me happy knowing that people are being helped," explained Sydney on why she put so much time and effort into the food drive. Hear more from Sydney here: https://youtu.be/MjXolRiPXvg.
"I am truly inspired by the enthusiasm from many of the homerooms regarding this chance to donate food to families in our area. We collected so much food that we had to plan an extra day to pick it all up, and in my opinion, that's the right problem to have," shared Kirsten T. after the completion of the food drive.
Thank you to all of our students and families that participated in the Donate for Donuts food drive. We are so proud of you, Gryphons!
Distance Learning Spotlight
In anticipation for summer vacations and warm weather, they recently celebrated "Read on the Beach Day"! Students got to change their Zoom backgrounds to a picture of a beach, wear sunglasses and hats, and listened to waves and seagull sounds while they had quiet reading time throughout the day.
Great idea, Ms. Lentz! We are so grateful for our creative and passionate teachers and for our fun-loving distance learners!
