Week 2, Term 1 2022
11/2/22 - He Pānui Wiki Rua, Whānga Tuatahi
Kia Ora Koutou (Hi Everyone)
We hope you are managing alright with the current hot and humid weather that is upon us at present. We have noticed that students are managing ok but be aware that - like us - this kind of weather makes people feel tired and cranky.
If your child comes home with 'news' from school, and you have concerns about what you are hearing, please remember to follow our procedures. Contact the classroom teachers in the first instance - especially if it is a playground or behaviour issue. Most of the time the teachers are the ones who initially deal with things and it's best to discuss any issue or concern directly with the syndicate leader (Graham Brown - Ōnoke; Chelsea Douglas - Ruamahanga; Jaime Church - Kourarau). If the matter is not resolved, the next step is to contact myself (Belinda).
It is important to remember that we are an inclusive school and many students have a wide range of learning, behavioural and/or social conditions/issues/difficulties that we have plans in place for. Some of these issues are not obvious, however rest assured, we are working behind the scenes to manage everyone here at school. Sometimes things do not go as planned, and we welcome any feedback, concerns or issues that you may have if your children are experiencing things at school so we can work to rectify the situation.
Values Focus This Week
Newsletter Proudly Sponsored by Kayla Watson
The latest events in the firing line are 'Tent City' and all Carterton Cluster and Wairarapa Swimming Events. We feel that the risk is too high from a health and safety perspective to run Tent City at 'Red' settings as well as the current cautious approach schools have been advised to take. We are still investigating options for a 'Gladstone School' swimming sports. We will let you know times and dates when we have confirmed this event can proceed at the Carterton Pools.
Our Updated COVID response plan was linked in last week's newsletter. Please make yourselves familiar with it - particularly the process for alerting the school should you or someone in your family test positive. The link has been included below.
Please continue to supply masks for students from home. The MoE have only provided masks for staff at this stage.
Bus Update
We continue to work with GoBus to tweak our bus runs. The latest task is to see if we can get those eligible on the Te Whiti run past Cavelands picked up and dropped off. We will let you know progress with this as it comes to hand. As yet there is no movement on a paid service from Masterton or from the Gladstone Road turn around point by Tiffen Road. We thank you for your continued patience.
Please also remember to let Kirstan know your updated pick up arrangements for this year so we can have accurate car and bus line lists.
Hui - Assembly
Thanks to Logan & Tim for running a great assembly today live from Ōnoke. We apologise if the sound quality made it difficult to hear. Congratulations to everyone who is doing a great job of trying to make the virtual assembly work. We also wished this week's birthday people a very happy day - Caitlin Peterson; Zoe Cates; Lucy Orsborn & Toby Wilkinson.
Well done to the following students who received certificates today:
Liz Mason (Whetu o te Wiki - star of the week); Emilio Rogers; Joey Williams; Noah Douglas; Rosie Walters; Jade Francis; Arie Butler; Rosie Falloon; Hedley Macdougall; Lucy Blake; Frankie Murnane; Louie Guilford; Charlie Kawana-Reid; Madden Davies.
Seesaw
Syndicates have 'Seesaw' accounts to keep you updated on the learning that is going on. Please check that you can access this year's Seesaw posts - contact your child's syndicate leader if you are having trouble. Here is a snapshot of what has been posted this week.
Structured Literacy; Pause, Breathe, Smile; Swimming in Kourarau
Science Experiments in Ruamahanga
Writing, Poetry and Maths in Ōnoke
Reminder: Check & Connect Meetings - Week 3
If you are having trouble finding a suitable time, please contact syndicate lead teachers (Ōnoke - Graham Brown; Ruamahanga - Chelsea Douglas; Kourarau - Jaime Church).
These meetings are scheduled for Tuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th of February. Please make a booking by using the following link. The meetings run for 10 minutes and are an opportunity for parents/caregivers to meet with their child's teacher to discuss health, wellbeing, learning and other matters ahead of the 2022 school year. If 10 minutes is not long enough, teachers will discuss an additional meeting time at the interview. These interviews do not involve students.
The event code should you need it is: wr3ka
BoT Update - Tanya Klue
Kia ora tatou
It was wonderful to see all the smiling faces entering our school grounds on the first day of the term. I was lucky enough to attend the ‘syndicate assemblies’ and I enjoyed watching Mrs Bunny and our staff welcoming all our new students and teachers.
We are very lucky to have such a fantastic staff, who have worked together to produce an exciting new year of learning for our Gladstone students. Everyone is doing very well with the ‘mask wearing requirements’, there are some very fancy masks on show.
Our first Board meeting is on Monday 14th February, and as always anyone is welcome to attend. We are always available for a chat or to answer any questions you may have, bot@gladstone1.school.nz
