Welcome New Heads of Senior School and Middle School
Lean on Me from a Distance: In these trying times, we all need somebody to lean on. What better way to demonstrate how people can come together from the safety of their own homes than with this classic song by the late Bill Withers? Selwyn House staffers recorded their parts separately, with music mixed by Richard Wills and video edited by Clare Stewart.
There are four weeks left to this academic year. June 12 will be the last day of (online) classes and then teachers will prepare report cards the following week. In Middle and Senior School, I cannot state a trimester weighting of student work, but I can state that teachers will count all student work completed this spring in determining their final class result. Feel free to reach out if you would like further clarification. These past two months have been quite the journey. Students have had to learn or improve upon a number of important skills including organization, self-regulation, and motivation. We have all had to learn new ways of teaching, studying, communicating, relating, and caring for each other. At Selwyn House, our teachers really do care for our students as demonstrated by preparing engaging lessons, enthusiastically showing up every day, and following up on students who miss class or do not submit work. I am concerned about students’ motivation for the next few weeks but with parents and teachers encouraging and monitoring progress, we can help them finish on a positive note and be proud of the effort they put forth in unusual times.

The Selwyn House Fishing Club is running every Wednesday for senior school students and parents who want to join, 5 - 7 pm on the shores of the mighty St Lawrence River, 10 minutes from downtown Montreal, Rue Leclair & Blvd LaSalle, West Verdun, just past the Douglas Hospital. Come join us with your son for a couple of hours of fresh air and fishing while respecting the rules of social distancing. Bring a fishing rod and reel (For tackle, Mr. Boyle uses Mepps spinners, size 3 and 4, rapalas and jigs or worms). Anyone age of 16+ needs a Quebec fishing license (Canadian Tire). Please contact Mr. Marty Boyle if you are interested in joining them over the next few weeks.
Book & Equipment drop off - Week of June 15: During the week of June 15, families will be expected to drop off all textbooks, athletic equipment, library books, and any other items that belong to the school. A drop-off schedule will be available shortly in order to respect social distancing measures. We will also have all the Lost & Found items laid out for viewing, and we will work out a time (tbd) to pick up locker items not yet collected. Stay tuned!
