Week 5

What a busy week it has been! Last week we had Douglas the Dinosaur visit our classroom. Students had a nice time reading to him and knowing that he was there each day they came. The Reading day Parade was another success this year! I loved seeing all the wonderful costumes and the kiddos listening to Mrs. Duvall read her new favorite book, Carnivores, to the school. If you have any pictures you would love to share with me, please send them! I would love to add them to our newsletter.

This week we read a fantasy story called Wolf. Students discussed how the characters in the story changed and compared and contrasted the characters in the story. We also worked with multiple meaning words and the following vocabulary words: admire, ached, bothering, splendid, and concentrate. In Target reading, we read an expository story called Prairie Dogs. Students learned about burrows and that prairie dogs have a scout who looks out for predators.

Social Studies

This week students took their first unit vocabulary test and district unit 1 test. They did a nice job taking their time and reading for understanding. We will begin our next units covering unit 4 and 5 next week. We will add a new vocabulary list to our Dodd folder soon.
