Flipgrid Information from Mrs. Schwartz:
Mrs. Schwartz has created a Flipgrid class for our RES students to share and talk about the books they are reading over the break. To join the Flipgrid class, your child will need to log in with their Google account. This is to ensure that all of the videos recorded are private and only for our RES Library class. You will use Google login credentials for your child to access the Flipgrid.
Looking forward to seeing you all on Flipgrid and discussing books we are reading :)

Information About the School Closure
This information was updated at 7:30 pm on 03/18/2020
- Updated COVID-19 Information from Our Superintendent: Click the link to get updated information from our Superintendent, Mr. Perkins.
- PowerSchool Renrollment and 4K Registration: POSTPONED...watch for new dates.
- E-Learning/Virtual Learning Opportunities: We sent out information about conducting E-learning/Virtual learning in the event of a school closure. While the State of Emergency does not require our students to participate in e-learning during the closure, we have equipped you with all of the information you need to provide learning opportunities for your child at home. We hope you will use these tools and resources to keep your child academically active during the closure. It is our understanding that we will not be making up these days due to the State of Emergency. However, it is important that your child is prepared to move on to the next grade despite missed instruction. Please help us in getting your child ready to finish out the school year by taking advantage of the resources we have provided to you.
- No Internet or Reliable Device: If your child does not have Internet access at home, our teachers have prepared work for them to take home to take the place of the e-learning mentioned above. Many teachers sent this home on Friday of last week. For those that did not, we will send them home with some work next week before the closure. We have also allowed students to take home additional books to read.
- Food Assistance: Riverton Elementary will serve as one of several Feeding Sites across our school system. This will be a drive-through feeding system that will minimize at physical contact for our families who need food. More information about this program will be sent out soon. There is information at the bottom of this page about food assistance for any family in need of assistance beyond what our school will provide.
- Campus Closure: Per MCSS, NO OUTSIDE ORGANIZATIONS can utilize the school during the closure period.
- Field Trips: Beginning Monday, March 16, 2020, due to the increased number of COVID-19 cases nationwide and a confirmed case in Alabama, we have been advised to cancel ALL (in-state and out-of-state) Field Trips prior to April 30th. We will provide updates on Field Trips with travel occurring after April 30 at a later date.

New Information from Our Librarian Mrs. Schwartz...
Hello RES Families!

You may access our OPAC system which will provide eBooks for your child to read. When you click on the following link, you will need to search for eBooks. A list will then be curated of all of our eBooks available. For a few of the books, you will need login information and I am currently working on gaining access from our vendor, PermaBound. Most books you will have immediate access to.

RES Library Twitter Account: I will be sharing resources from authors via Twitter that your child could do over the extended break. Many authors are creating Youtube videos or Livestream lessons for children that coincide with their books. Our library Twitter handle is @RivertonLMC https://twitter.com/RivertonLMC.
If your child is in 2nd or 3rd grade, they will have a Google Classroom account for their library class. I will post some questions for the students to answer about the books they are reading. I'm hoping this will allow for a readers' advisory in which the students can share their thoughts on what they are currently reading over the break.
If you find yourself needing resources or having questions, please feel free to email me at awschwartz@mcssk12.org. I'm happy to help!
