He showed them a monkey's paw that supposedly grants wishes. The man warns the family that every wish comes with a price. But the family refuses to listen.
The monkey's paw was first owned by a solider. The solider wanted to get rid of it because it came with bad fortune, fear, and sadness to someone or something. However, as the solider gave the monkey's paw to the family he also warned them. The White family didn't understand or believe until there first wish.
