Reading is Magical!
How to turn your children into readers
When reading aloud with your children, it's important to remember that it works best when children are allowed to choose the stories themselves. Books can serve as both "mirrors" and "windows." "Mirrors" when children find characters like themselves in the story, and "windows" when they learn about other people's lives.

STEAM and Reading Night a Big Success
The STEAM and Reading Night for Wanamaker families was held on January 17. What a fantastic evening it was! Eighty-five families attended the event. The Discovery Center's Mobile Museum, which included 10 STEAM stations, was located in the gym. Dr. Seuss Bingo took place in the library, and the computer lab was open for use. There was something for everyone of all ages!
When asked if she was pleased with how the the evening went, Erica Valdivia, Instructional Facilitator at WE, responded, "We had nothing but positive comments from students and families. There was a full house all night long. We would like to express a big appreciation to the Discovery Center for helping us put on a successful evening."
Thank you to our Wanamaker families for supporting this awesome celebration of STEAM and reading!
