Family Newsletter-September 2022

Welcome Back

We are SO excited to be back and in the building and seeing your students EVERY day Monday-Friday! We had a GREAT start to the school year this past week! We enjoyed the smiling faces, hugs and AWESOME attitudes each day as our students learned the schedule and structure of school again. We thank you, families for bringing them each day, ensuring they got on the bus and made the walk to and from school. It takes each of us to ensure a WONDERFUL school year. Thank you for playing your part and playing it well!

PBIS Corner

Positive Behavior Intervention & Supports

What is PBIS?

It is a process for creating school environments that are more predictable and effective for achieving academic and social goals.

How Does it Work?

A key strategy of the PBIS is prevention. The majority of students follow the school's expectations, but are never acknowledged for their positive behavior. Through instruction, comprehension, and regular practice, all teachers and staff members will use a consistent set of behavioral rules. We will view it as an opportunity for reteaching, not just punishing.

How can YOU help?

You are an important part of PBIS implementation. We encourage families to use the same expectations that we teach at school. This common language creates consistency and a unified support for expected students behavior. Children thrive when they have consistent, predictable expectations and consequences.

At Binns we are striving to be at 95% attendance this school year!!

We would LOVE if you could help us ensure that your students are ON TIME which means before 9:00am when tardy bell rings.

HOWEVER, if you are needing to miss school please send an e-mail to You can even attach your excuse from the doctor or professional to the e-mail. We hope this will save you time and remembering to send the excuse in! :)

Getting into the habit of daily attendance can:

  • reduce stress

  • make it easier to connect with friends and teachers

  • support learning

In an effort to help promote attendance, we will be doing incentives for BOTH our students and our families. Stay tuned!!

September-Safe, Respectful & Responsible

We will be continuing the Word of the Month this year! We will introduce a word each month to our students in library and in the classroom. We will then encourage our students to put this word into action throughout the school day! They will receive a shout out for any character word that is displayed. From these shout outs our students have the chance to be chosen each month for a special lunch with their families! We also encourage YOU families to display these words in the home! We can do this together to make our students wonderful and well rounded people!
