Ridgeview STEM Junior High School
January 22, 2021
From Mrs. Richardson
Hello Ridgeview families,
As we begin to navigate the second half of the school year, I want to take this opportunity to give some shout outs! First, for many of you that have been with us for multiple students and have sat in the morning drop off line or on Hill Rd waiting on the drop off line, you know how that traffic can be. You all are doing a great job of keeping the line moving! Second, a shout out to our families with students in athletics or music programs. The way we have had to watch our students participate in their concert or athletic events has been hard this year, but your continued support of these programs and your student does not go unnoticed. Also, thanks for continuing to encourage your students to follow our safety plans and keep their masks on and up so that we can continue to have face to face instruction days!
Speaking of safety, we will be conducting our safety drill next week on Tuesday and Friday. As we go through the year, we periodically review what to do in different situations. Those could include threats to the building, environmental hazards and medical emergencies. We never like to think of what could happen, but we want to be prepared. These drills will help us teach the expectations and responses in those situations and also allow us to identify at a larger level the areas we need to improve. Please remind your student that while this is only a drill, we still must take it seriously.
Odds and Ends
- January 22, 2021-Pay to Play second payment due
- February 8 and 11th-Mobile Dentist @ Sycamore Elementary (see details below)
JUST SOME REMINDERS:
- Students should leave airpods/beats or other bluetooth devices such as those at home.
- Students should carry a spare mask in their bag. We have extras if the mask gets soiled as well.
- Students are reminded to turn cell phones off during the day and keep them in a safe place if they need to bring them to school. The district policy for K-8th grade is to have them off during school hours. We appreciate your support in this. If you need to reach your student, please contact the main office and we will have them come down to the office to call you.
- Students should bring a refillable water bottle to school as our water fountain mouth pieces have been turned off. We have bottle filling stations that they may use throughout the day. Students may also purchase a bottle of water through our vending machines for $1.25.

What's Going On in PAW Time?
Students in PAW Time are learning how to Get their Mind Right this week. This is part of our R-Factor Training, as we help students apply the equation E + R = O in order to build Emotional Regulation skills. As a review, students have learned how to stay disciplined, recognize what is in their control, eliminate BCD, Manage their responses and Press Pause. Getting your Mind Right involves setting an intentional focus and then allowing your focus to help keep you committed to positive outcomes. Here is a brief video that reviews the process of Getting your Mind Right.
The Mobile Dentist is Coming!
Great news! Sycamore Creek Elementary has partnered with Smile Programs…the mobile dentists to offer in-school dental care on February 8, 2021 and February 11, 2021. Ridgeview students can also sign up! A parent will need to bring their child to the appointment. You can sign your child up to see the dentist at www.myschooldentist.com. Please complete the registration As Soon As Possible.
The dental care is usually at no cost to you. All insurance is accepted including Medicaid and CHIP. For those without insurance, a low cost self-pay option is available.
Convenient and comfortable
The in-school dental program saves you time and provides a safe and comfortable place for your child to receive gentle dental care from licensed local professionals.
Dental care includes a complete dental exam, x-rays, cleaning, fluoride and sealants when necessary, and in some cases, restorative care such as fillings.
Dental care for a healthy life
Children who see a dentist regularly may have fewer health issues like:
- Early tooth loss caused by dental decay
- Gum disease
- Heart disease
- Impaired speech development
Help keep your child healthy, in school and learning.
