A Peek Inside the Week - February 10th, 2023
A Note from Your Principals
Let's start with the celebrations!
- In the month of January, we saw our highest school-wide percent of students present, with 95%! This is the first time we've met our goal, and ultimately the state's goal!
- In looking at specific grade-level data, Grade 2 had the highest attendance with 96.21%.
- We have our lowest percent of students considered "chronically absent" with 16.09%.
Looking to the second ½ of the year, we'll be exploring some of our continued challenges:
- For the second month in a row, Kindergarten had the lowest attendance with 94.31%.
- 16.09% of students being considered "chronically absent" is triple our desired goal of 5% or less. Knowing that 83 of our students are missing 10% or more of the school year is concerning. More concerning is that 11 of these 83 students have missed 20% or more of the days we've been in school.
We've received some questions about specific attendance "rules". Below you'll find a few key points, but the full Board of Education policy can be found here.
- “Excused absence” - a student is considered excused from school if the school has received written documentation describing the reason for the absence within ten (10) school days of the student’s return to school.
- After a student's 9th "excused absence", absences can only be excused for specific reasons.
- A student is considered "truant" if they have four (4) unexcused absences from school in any one month or ten (10) unexcused absences from school in any school year.
If our team can support your family in any way with regards to barriers impacting regular school attendance, please don't hesitate to reach out.
Our 100th Day Celebrations
Students had a great time celebrating our 100th day of school on Tuesday! Students were greeted at the door with a math challenge of finding different ways to show 100. There was also a school wide estimation jar challenge!! 132 students accurately identified the jar that had exactly 100 items!! :)
Throughout the grades - classes celebrated our 100 days together in a variety of ways! Some of these activities included making 100 day crowns and 100 day shirts, reading 100 day books, sharing collections of 100 items, and dressing like a 100 year old. Check out the slideshow of pictures below for all the fun!
Happy 100th Day of School!! :)
