RCSA Monthly Bulletin

We have officially completed over 5 weeks of school this year and are moving along steadily! We are so thankful to all of our families, teachers, and students that have worked hard to help this school year run smoothly. We are excited to see some similarity come back as we figure out new ways to celebrate many of the events and activities that we look forward to every year.

A message from our executive director

I want to send a special congratulations to our 4 River City Science Academy Teachers of the Year. I am so thankful for all that they do to support our students, fellow teachers, and the entire RCSA community. I know that all of our recipients deserve this great recognition. Please join me in congratulating and celebrating these teachers.

  • River City Science Academy Middle-High - Jessie Crews
  • River City Science Academy Mandarin - Kerry Billingsley
  • River City Science Academy Elementary - Nicole Spanbauer
  • River City Science Academy Innovation - Erica Leatherbarrow

We wish them the best of luck as they go through the election process for the 2021 Duval County Teacher of the Year. I am sure that they will represent RCSA very well.

high school science olympiad

Our state champions Science Olympaid team may not have the typical start that they're used to but they are making it work! The teams will be taking online tests, practicing virtually, and recording their building events. We are proud to announce this year’s HS team captains at RCSA Middle-High.

family shoutout!

Special thanks to our grandparent Nancy Critzer and her granddaughter, 6th grader Madalynn, for painting hundreds of beautiful rocks to gift our teachers. Our teachers are working hard this year and we love being able to show our appreciation with a wonderful gift from one of our families.

Character Education

We are proud to be an Emerging State School of Character by Character.org and are working towards earning our State School of Character Certification. Implementing a strong character education program is an important part of K – 12 education and is very important to us at RCSA. Each month, students across all grades and campuses will be learning about the same character trait of the month. This means that they can share and discuss with their friends and siblings who may not be in the same grade as them. We encourage families at home to discuss the character traits and further explore them with your students! The character trait for September is empathy.

Thank you teachers

We want to take the time to thank our amazing teachers for their work this year. It is a hard time for many of us right now and they are truly all heroes. We will all pass these challenges together and we are so thankful to have an amazing group of teachers here to support our students.
