Happy Holidays from the Library Learning Commons

Looking Forward

December is a great time for looking forward. As teachers we are SO busy, yet just around the corner the Winter Break awaits with holiday festivities and celebrations, and we have a New Year to look forward to with resolutions, possible changes, and new challenges.

The Library Learning Commons has enjoyed another busy month as Jayne and I attended our first Tendered Vendor Display to make purchases for your classes, hosted another Films for School documentary, enjoyed meeting author John Wilson, and rearranged the furniture (again!).

Like you, we sometimes feel overwhelmed, but are thankful for the support that comes when working here at Streetsville. Because you visit with classes, we are constantly learning and trying new things, and we thank you for that! Check out the photo gallery below for some of the highlights of this month.

We hope you enjoy the many amazing events available at Streetsville during this month of celebration; the Drama Showcase, Music Night, and the Talent Show are just a few things happening that are sure to brighten your day!

Films for Schools

This month the LLC will be featuring Good Hair with comedian Chris Rock as part of the Gender Matters Film Festival. We look forward to seeing your classes in attendance.

Art in the LLC

Thanks to Ms. Dunn's class for bringing in their Chair Projects! They make a great addition to the space AND provide extra seating - perfect!

Fiction & Non-Fiction Print Materials

Jayne and I made our way to the Peel Fall Vendor Display this month and took the opportunity to build our print collection. We made selections to grow the Graphic Text Collection as well as the Canadian Biography section. Please visit the LLC to check out the new titles and see how we can support your classes in the future with all the great resources available!

FNMI Resources

With the new curriculum, Jayne and I have been keeping our eyes peeled for print materials to build our collection. We found some beautiful, new First Nations resources at the Vendor Display and would love for you to come in to take a look at this growing collection to see how you can fit it into your classes.

New (Old) Furniture

You may recognize the recycled furniture that recently found its way into the LLC. Students have been enjoying this donation for leisure learning opportunities, reading to peers, and just hanging out. We're happy to have them!

Tiger Tutors in the Technasium!

During this busy season of studying and preparing for exams, please remind students that the Tiger Tutors are available Monday through Thursday during the second half of periods 3 and 4 lunches. Thanks to Ms. Colquhoun and the Guidance Department for organizing and supporting this group. For additional support in writing and language specific tasks, be sure to remind students to visit the Write Side where Ms. Stevenson and students tutors are available for support.

Additional Information

Please feel free to drop by the Library Learning Commons at any time to explore, create, or collaborate. We have several spaces to book for class use, including the computer labs and collaborative work spaces.
