Parent Volunteers Needed!

Contribute to Research at UCLA Lab School

CONNECT is looking for a parent willing to volunteer approximately 2 hours per month to help review proposals from researchers seeking to conduct work with our students and teachers. The volunteer will join the CONNECT Research Review Committee, a collaboration between UCLA Lab School staff, Graduate School of Education & Information Studies (GSE&IS) faculty, and UCLA Lab School parents. By reviewing potential research for risks and benefits and providing feedback to researchers, the committee ensures that all studies conducted at UCLA Lab School are designed to protect participants, minimize risk, and reflect the values and priorities of our community. About twice per month, parent volunteers will be asked to evaluate research proposals online and to share their thoughts with the rest of the committee through our web-based review system.

If you are interested in taking part in this important group please contact Melissa Cook at

Good To Know

Can We Chalk?

You may have noticed the chalk art pieces livening up the walkways around our school. Last week, teachers and staff made drawings on the blacktop and EC yard as a community builder and a welcome to students. Now Upper II students have added beautiful and meaningful drawings of their own. It's a project that explores the gifts each one brings to the community, going beyond the usual math or sports prowess to who they are as problem solvers, teammates and friends. In their culminating year at UCLA Lab School, the students will have lots of opportunities to strengthen their skills in leadership and collaboration, as well as to deepen their knowledge of who they are as learners. Colorful paths lead the way!
