Teacher and Student TOOLS!
Starting early will help expose our kids to the structures and demands of the test. We do not have a lot of control over their performance, but we can DEFINITELY do our part to ensure we've exposed them to the expectations of the tests, allowed them to practice, and ask questions. This will help to remove some variables.
Use this link to access Student Tutorials which include student-narrated videos that introduce teachers and students to the online tests and tools. Additionally, you can use the same link to access Sample Item Sets which are a select group of test items in ELA, math, science and social studies that encompass various kinds of technology enhanced items.
OEAA (Office of Educational Assessment and Accountability) recommends that classroom teachers introduce online testing to their students by playing the Student Tutorial Video in class to show students how the online testing works. Then, they recommend showing the OTT (Online Tools Training) to the entire class (doesn't have to be on the same day). After both of these have occurred, it would be a good idea to practice using the Sample Item Sets and going through a TDA (text dependent anyalysis) task.

M-STEP- Sample Questions for grades 5,8 & 11
- Select "Sample Item Sets"
- Select the grade
- Select the content area
- Login with the Username and Password provided on the login screen
By looking at what the kids will be doing (I recommend doing this with the kids), it's not so much about the content, but the cognitive demand and stamina required of them to not only navigate the online testing tool, but also navigate their knowledge.
M-Step Tickets
- All students have tickets
- Accommodations are accurately represented on tickets
- You have time to cut them out and get organized
If you pick them up early, they must be placed in a locked, secure area!
