Conserving Natural Resources

Why it is important to label the species in the red list? It is important to label the species in the red list because in that way we could know what species are vulnerable, threatened or endangered of extinction. Also we could help to protect the species that are in the red list.

Conservation Status:

Extinct:

- Extinct (EX)

- Extinct in the Wild (EW)

Threatened:

-Critically Endangered (CR)

- Endangered (EN)

- Vulnerable (VU)

Lower Risk:

- Near Threatened (NT)

- Conservation Dependent (CD)

- Least Concern (LC)

Mysticetis:

  1. Bowhead Whale: Balaena mysticetus. Least Concern. Bowhead whale was endangered two times, but the population of bowhead whale were increasing unit be at the phase of least concern.

  2. Blue Whale: Balaenoptera musculus. Endangered. The blue whale is endangered all his life. People in the past, used to kill the blue whales because of the oil (whaling).

  3. Sei whale: Balaenoptera borealis. Endangered. This specie is one of the fastest of the baleen whales. These whales can reach speeds in excess of 30 miles per hour for short periods of time. This whale is endangered due to whaling (hunting of whales primarily for meat and oil).
