Louisiana purchase

By: Alec Heifner

What is it?

The Louisiana purchase was the purchase of about 827,000,000 square miles of land west of the Mississippi river bought by north America from France in the year of 1803

North American colonies before the purchase.

Before the Louisiana Purchase the colonies needed westward expansion and access to the international markets for the American farm products.

Who owned it before north america did?

Well before north america owned it France did. They sold it to us because Napoleon their leader was getting very poor from the war that they were fighting against Britain and he needed some money. So he sold it to the north american colonies for about 15 million dollars and that equals out to about 4 cents per acre. #Cheep

What happened after North America bought it?

After they bought it Thomas Jefferson sent Lewis and Clarke on an expedition to explore the north american interior. After the expedition westward expansion began immediately. The first state that was made out of this was Louisiana #Coincidence

Importance today

This is very important in today's society because It was the biggest territorial gain by the U.S every and if Thomas Jefferson didn't purchase this than we would not live in the great state of Iowa today and there would be no states around us and North America would still e very small. #Mercia.
