December 20

Well done and a big HOORAY to Teale Buono and Joanna Steffen who have passed their Praxis tests! We are very proud of you both!!!!

Welcome to our UNCW and Mount Olive interns! Please introduce yourselves as you see new faces on campus.

Tidy Up!

Our wonderful custodians kindly request that we continue to take extra care with the condition of our rooms. Supervisors will be popping in at various points after the new year to conduct random checks. Please make sure our classrooms are tidy when we leave each day; papers, picked up off floors, tables orderly, books put away etc. Thank you for making everything sparkle and letting our kids take charge of keeping our school top-notch.

This month wraps up our second observation cycle and mid-year PDPs. Please update your PDP by Friday, January 13th. Mrs. Stitz and I will be setting up schedules to review PDPs.

Biggest Loser: From Dawn Hicks

Happy New Year! Hope everyone has had a restful break so far. I would like to resurrect our biggest loser competition. Last year we paid $10.00 to join, a $1.00 per pound for any gains each week. Weigh in were on Friday mornings and Libby has agreed to take care of that. The person who lost the most weekly gets any money paid that week. The person who loses the most over the time we choose wins half of the entry fee, 2nd place wins 30% and third place wins 20%. We can change this any way we want. If you are interested just let me (Dawn Hicks) know.

  • As we approach our halfway mark for the 2016-2017 school year, Mrs. Stitz and I will begin meeting with students you have indicated as at risk.
  • We have submitted a plan for an additional tutor to serve 5th grade and we are awaiting approval from our Title I department in order to post the vacancy.
  • Our order for Math and ELA resources through Mentoring Minds is ready to go. We are waiting for the county to complete the transfer of money before we can order. As soon as that occurs, we will submit our order. Once our order is submitted it is likely we will have our materials within a week. The company is providing professional development on their products for us during the February ERPD.

Staff Field Trip

We are going on a field trip! We will be visiting the Hunt Library on NCSU campus on Tuesday, January 24th. Please follow the link below to let us know if you would prefer to drive or take an activity bus. If we have enough staff to take the bus, we will provide it. Carpooling is recommended so folks can enjoy lunch on their own and/or stay on to visit the NC History Museum, the Art Museum, and/or the Capitol Building. It is approximately a two-hour drive by car and a three-hour drive by activity bus. Here is the form:

The tour is from 11:30-12:30. We will meet the bookBot window, just inside the Partners Way entrance to the library. You can learn about the library here:

Hourly parking is available in the Poulton Pay Lot across the street from the first-floor entrance to the Hunt Library. Parking fees are $2/hour. Parking spots are numbered, and there is a pay station that accepts debit and credit cards only (no cash). If no parking is available at the Poulton lot, the next available paid parking area can be found in the Partner's Way deck, which is a short five-minute walk from Hunt.
