  • The United States is the third most populous country in the world following China and India. The U.S. population, currently more than 265 million, is growing by about 2.5 million people each year, making the United States one of the world's fastest-growing industrialized nations.

  • The United States is responsible for 22 percent of the world's industrial carbon dioxide emissions, a leading cause of global warming.

  • Every 20 minutes, the human population grows by about 3,000. At the same time another plant or animal becomes extinct (27,000 each year).

  • Between 1999 and 2001 the world’s population increased by 1 billion

  • The United States is the third most populous country in the world as of April 1, 2013 with a population of 315, 718,000.
