Mark Seliger
Kurt Cobain portrait
Portrait
Before the shoot Mark told the band not to wear shirts with writing on them. Kurt Cobain showed up wearing a shirt that read "Corporate magazines still suck" along with a pair of chunky sunglasses. Mark asked Cobain if he could do a couple of shots without the shirt and sunglasses, but Cobain refused. He finally did two frames without the glasses, but he crossed his eyes. When mark returned the film to Rolling stone they were ecstatic about the shots. The second time he shot for the band they were more cooperative. This photo was taken in 1993 in a studio in Melborne. Mark beat himself up over the fact that Cobain was not very cooperative. The photo became more known after Kurt Cobain passed. It was taken for Rolling Stones Magazine.
The style being captured here is finding the beauty in one person not just because of their lifestyle. This picture is taking the shot.
opinion
This is one of my favorite portraits. It captures the beauty in Kurt Cobain. I feel like it looks past his work in his music and just captures him. It captures reality. It really makes you feel something in my mind. It captures his personality. This photo is very unique in my mind. I find it very unique because it came out very nice even though Cobain was very uncooperative. I would not change anything about the portrait. Mark successfully captured Kurt's personality.
