In Case You Missed It:
Questions asked:
- What do we do about the kid that can do but doesn't? We put a plan together to address his/her behavior.
- When do we do the intervention? As long as we do not have an intervention/enrichment block in our schedule, it will have to be worked in for 10 -15 min of class a couple of times a week which doesn't penalize the student for missing something.
- Who is responsible for doing the intervention? If it is a math issue, then the math teacher. If it is a reading issue, then the ELA teacher. If it is a behavior issue in all classrooms, then all teachers. If it is a behavior issue in one class, then the one teacher.
I hope all of this information demonstrates the great need to continually to be meeting with your team and updating our radar REGULARLY! It does help to have one person be the one writing team notes for all. Please date and initial your notes. It is expected for your team to meet weekly and the radar to be updated twice a month. Admin, counselors, and social workers meet at the mid-term and end of term to check on what we need to do.
Thursday evening was a great night celebrating the successes of our softball, tennis, and cross country teams. Tommy Harrington, Christina Reed, Sherell Stevenson, and Jake Stevens did a nice job making families feel welcome and recognizing the accomplishments from each team's season. We will be celebrating football and golf next week.
Congratulations to Sherell Stevenson for completing her Masters in School Administration from UNC Pembroke on Friday evening! We are fortunate to have Sherell continue her internship with us through the first semester!
Thank you to our AVID students and Vincent Pienaar for planning and implementing a fun time at Friday's dance. All concessions were donated by families and several came to help sell snacks. Our DJ, Izzy Izz (aka Izzy Taylor), did a FABULOUS job spinning tunes that appealed to all! Thank you to Misty Thompson, Anna Whalen, Lindsay Gaines, Alison Poole, Jen Rubinosky, Brian and Karen Caldwell, Karen Briggs, Andrew Allen, Bonnie Marshall, Kim Ashby, Kim Vaughn, Cindy Quiggle, and Evan Roush for your help monitoring in all the different locations! I appreciate Kim, Karen, Jen, Brian and Karen staying to help with dismissal. Monica Hawes worked her magic and got the cafeteria back in order in a flash! We were all done with the car lines in 25 minutes and everything cleaned up and gone before 7pm. That was Stallion teamwork at its BEST!
We are very excited to announce that we have a new bus driver! Helena Kershaw, cafeteria assistant, will begin driving a permanent route on Monday! We have been so fortunate to have Tommy Harrington, Kimberly Morrill, Mary Berlauk, and Jake Stevens that have been covering a bus since the beginning of the year. At least now all buses have a permanent driver. All we have to worry about now is having subs when people are out.
