MARYLAND COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT PROGRAM
Over the next two months, students in grades three, four and five will participate in MCAP (Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program) for state-wide testing in math and reading. This computer based, standardized assessment is administered to all 3rd-5th graders in Maryland. The MCAP assessments in ELA and Math focus on the content outlined in the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards for each grade level. The Math assessment consists of four session each approximately 40 minutes in length. The ELA assessment consists of four sessions each approximately 70 minutes in length. More information regarding MCAP assessments in math and ELA can be found: Division of Assessment, Accountability, and Performance Reporting (marylandpublicschools.org).
There is nothing your child can study to prepare for this assessment other than get a good night’s sleep, eat a good breakfast and do his/her best. Students will complete one session each day on their assigned testing date (schedule below). If a student is absent, we will work with teachers to make up the missed sessions.
The dates and times for testing are as follows:

MEDIA CENTER NEWS
April Is School Library Media Month
All month students at Linton Springs will be celebrating books and our library. We will be sponsoring the following activities:
- Battle of the Books – Students will be participating in meetings and a mock battle as they prepare to compete in the annual Eldersburg Battle of the Books on April 22 at Century High School at 6:30 PM.
- Star of The Month Books - In an effort to encourage students to try different genres or areas of the media center, we will be designating certain books as “stars of the month”. When a student checks out one of these books the computer will buzz and we will announce that they have found a star of the month book. We will take their picture for the “Star of the Month” bulletin board and they will be awarded a small prize. (Bookmark, pencil, etc.)
- Display Cases - We will be displaying different themes in our school display cases all month long. (National Poetry Month, Keep America Beautiful Month – Earth Day, April Fool’s Day – Humor and Joke Books. BES Books)
- Announcements - April 3rd – 9th we will be sharing book and library facts to be read on our morning announcements to celebrate National Library Week.
- Book Swap – April 25th – 29th The last week of April we will be holding a gently used book swap for students in all grades. Mornings in the media center.
MUSIC ROOM NEWS
Mrs. McCusker would like to thank the LSE parent community for partnering in making the second-grade play a truly special event! She is grateful for the props, costumes, and scenery that made our musical story come alive. The Linton community is amazing!!!
SCHOOL BUS SAFETY
We must work together to ensure our students stay safe!
WASTE-FREE WEDNESDAYS
Did you know that Linton Springs is a Green School? What is a Green School you might ask? A Green School is a school that supports global sustainability. One of our Green School objectives is Student-Driven Sustainability Practices. Here environmental actions are documented to demonstrate that students are planning, implementing and leading environmental practices.
In support of this goal, Linton Springs is launching Waste-Free Water Bottle Wednesdays. If your child already uses a reusable water bottle each day, kudos are in order! Each Wednesday, we will gather data on the number of reusable water bottles in class and display this data for all to see. It is important for students to understand that they play an active role in "Reduce, Reuse & Recycle".
