Be Prepared.... Think Ahead
Outside playtime is a very important part of the total elementary school program. Pendleton Elementary students have outside recess when the temperature is above 20 F (adjusted for wind chill), unless inclement weather, or a safety concern exists. Please make sure your child is dressed for the colder weather.
Developmental Preschool
Robotics Club
The final rounds of robotics club are all about planning, designing, building, evaluating, and testing your own robot. This last rotation of meetings includes two dates for each group. The first meeting is a planning, designing, and researching ideas for your build. Students will be given "build bags". Students will then build at home over the next week. The second meeting will be a show and tell style meeting where students explain their robot to the other students.
1st/2nd Gr: Tues., Feb. 26 and Tues., March 5th
All times are 3:30pm-5:00pm
Permission slips are in the offices of each building.
School Counselor's Corner
Parents,
Our Project Care this week focused on being nice towards others when conflicts do happen. Conflicts happen between students because they may have very different feelings and reactions to the same event. Having good manners when they disagree with someone is especially important. Letting feelings of anger control their mouth may result in them making poor choices in what they say and do. How they manage their strong feelings can either be healthy or hurtful. Students who say things meanly when they are angry are not making a good choice. Students who hold in their angry feelings and get back at someone later by seeking revenge are also making a poor choice. Students can use good manners to manage conflicts so that everyone benefits. Anger and hurt are very strong emotions that students can learn to understand and express in healthy ways. Here are some ways that they can use good manners even when they disagree or are in conflict with another:
They need to learn the things or triggers that cause them to feel angry or upset and how their body reacts. They then need to use calming strategies before they get upset so that their strong emotions don’t take over.
It is okay for them to tell someone that they will have to just agree to disagree and respect each other’s differences.
If they are too upset to talk with someone in a calm way, they should tell them that they need space and need to cool off and calm down before talking about the conflict.
The expression, “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all,” applies especially when they are really angry or hurt. Walking away without saying or acting disrespectfully is using good manners.
If you can practice through situations of possible conflict with your student and practice ways to respond appropriately, it will help them when the actual situation arises. Also, talk to your students about the calming strategies that you use when you are upset and how that helps you. Practice some of these strategies with your child.
Until next week....
