Connecting with Mrs. Cohen
January 8, 2020
This weekly message, usually sent on Sunday evening, was meant to be about returning to school-- in person or virtually-- after a break and some helpful ideas around routines. I was also going to write about goal setting and SMART goals.
Today, however, with what has transpired this week nationally and in our District, I have a different message in mind and sending it today seemed the timely thing to do.
As Dr. Ulrich shared yesterday afternoon, "Racist and derogatory statements were spray-painted on the exterior" of three schools in our district. He went on to say that the Kirkwood School District "staff, administration and Board of Education strongly condemn racism, hate speech and . . . we will work closely with the Kirkwood Police Department to ensure a complete investigation."
A question for many of us as educators and parents is, how can I help my child at this time. My hope is that the information and links can help you navigate these difficult conversations.
As always, Robinson's Counseling Team (Ms. Harris, Mrs. Ampey-Elong, Ms. Shields --see below--and I) is here for you if you need additional help. Please reach out to any of us.
This weekend I hope that you stay healthy and are safe. I also hope you are able to find some peace if you are feeling adrift,
Julie
The picture at the right hangs in my office. It is the first and the last message I want your children and you to receive whenever you think about Robinson.

ROBINSON CARES FOOD PANTRY this THURSDAY NIGHT
A NOTE FROM OUR PTO ROBINSON CARES COMMITTEE:
Our friends at Trinity Church do so much more than just oversee the pantry, they strive to create a community where our families are welcome. They would love to see lots of folks in person to offer them not only items from the pantry, but also emotional support and help with additional resources families might need if they are able. This is a great group and they are eager to serve!
