President, Kris Schuler, Nu:
Greetings Sisters!
I am so happy that we have made it to May! I have to admit - it might be my favorite month of the year. After 27 years in the field of education, I always look forward to a little R&R! Now that many of us have been vaccinated, I am sure you are as ready as I am to get back out there (safely of course) and do something....anything!!!
I think I am most excited about all of the activities we have that are coming up! In May, we will be holding a happy hour for any Sigma graduates that are planning on a move to the KC area. It is our goal to recruit all of them and keep them active in Sigma life! The happy hour is on the 25th at the Fox and Hound in KS. If you would like to join us, please do! The more Sigma faces the better. I want our new grads to feel welcomed and fall in love with alumnae life!
We are also planning a Sisterhood on June 3rd. Think of this as a Sigma reunion! It will be outside (for safety) and you can bring your own drink of choice! We even have party favors! I encourage each of you to join in the festivities and bring along a sister or 2! It will just be a good time with your sisters!
I can't wait to see each of you at something in the next year. As we emerge from this sort of Covid cocoon, I hope we take time to celebrate our sisterhood and the love we have for Sigma.
SLAM!
Kris

Vice President, Cindy Rathke, Nu:
Founder's day was a wonderful celebration of our sisterhood! It was so great to meet in person or on Zoom after being separated for so long by the pandemic. As more of us are vaccinated, we want to have even more activities. Meanwhile, please participate for the time being as much as possible in person or on Zoom.
Some adjustments have been made in our schedule for the month of May. For safety, we decided to postpone the Happy Hour at Houlihans. We will reschedule it in June.
Our first event will be a Graduation Party on Tuesday, May 25 at 5:00 P.M. at the Fox and Hound. The Fox and Hound is located at 10428 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66212. We are mailing invitations to graduating Seniors in our collegiate chapters in Missouri and Kansas. We're excited to meet the Tri Sigma graduates and extend our friendship from our Alumnae Chapter.
Our daytime book club will meet on May 26 at 9:30 to discuss An American Marriage by Tayari Jones. If you would like to join us, please let Ilene Burns know so she can add you to our email group. Her email is iburns38@yahoo.com.
We're planning two other events for June. The first one is our Sisterhood Kickoff on June 3rd at 5:00 P.M. at the Shelter house in Longview Park. This will be a BYOB party with snacks provided. But keep in mind that no glass is allowed. You might also want to bring your own chair.
Our philanthropy for June will be a Military Baby Shower on June 19 from 2:00 - 4:00. Brenda Dumler will be hosting it at her home at 9513 Keystone Drive, Lees Summit, MO. We'll be collecting donations for our military families. A list of specific items will be posted in our invitation closer to the date. Brenda, thank you for offering to host this party!
We will be sending out more information so please look for it on our website, Facebook, and on Evite invitations in your email.
Let's make this a great Spring!

Book Club - Ilene Ginardi Burns, CHI:
Seven Sigmas met today on Zoom for a discussion of THE LIGHT AFTER THE WAR by Anita Abriel. Carolyn Austin led the discussion. The book was a memoir about the Jewish struggle in the mid forties during and after the Second World War. Excellent!
Cindy Rathke will lead our discussion the 4th Wednesday in May..... AN AMERICAN MARRIAGE by Tayari Jones. Cindy will let us know the week before if we will meet outside in a park or if weather doesn't permit, on Zoom. Thanks to Ashley Adorante for setting us up for the whole year on Zoom.
Also for future reference, Connie Stoner has chosen THE REVISED FUNDAMENTALS OF CAREGIVING by Jonathan Evison for our selection in June and Gail Albauer will be leading the discussion of BIG LIES IN A SMALL TOWN by Diane Chamberlain in July.
Happy Spring, everyone!
Sigma love,
Ilene Burns

Chi Chapter initiated four new sisters on March 31st. We are very excited to officially and formally welcome them into our sisterhood! April will be a busy month for our sisters as they will participate in Greek Week, host a virtual Founder's Day event, as well as their first virtual 5K: Run for Robbie - which will support the Robbie Page Memorial Fund. Chi was able to host a "Girls Night Out" Formal event last weekend which was a wonderful chance for all our sisters to be together as covid restrictions ease up and we are able to safely return to "normal." Chi recently established a new Housing Corp and Chapter Advisory Board. If you are interested in supporting the chapter, they are seeking additional volunteers to fill open positions. Finally, Chi will celebrate its 100th chapter anniversary next spring! Stay tuned for future updates as we plan ahead and look forward to celebrating this wonderful milestone with our sisters!
This year, Chi Chapter will host its first Virtual 5K. Our sisters, community members, family and friends can walk, jog, run, bike or hike a 5K between April 18th-23rd. Go to the Chi Chapter website to register!
