Mr. Russell
We are so excited to have Mr. Russell at our building. In just this short time he has created an amazing atmosphere! From his visits to the classrooms to his weekly football games, the students really enjoy seeing him everywhere. We are lucky to have you, Mr. Russell!

Walk To School Day
On October 10th Gearing will be participating in Walk to School Day. Students will meet behind the school at 9am and take a walk around the block in support of healthier habits. The path will be approximately 1 mile, so make sure you have good walking shoes on. Parents are welcome to come with us!
Gearing Elementary has joined St. Clair Middle and Eddy Elementary in the Positivity Project. Each week our students will learn about a different character strength that encourages them to understand themselves and that #OtherPeopleMatter. One little paragraph cannot do justice to this amazing mission. Check out the website and ask your student what they learned today.
A HUGE "Thank you!!!" to our amazing and always supportive PTO! They have outfitted our entire school in Positivity Project shirts.

Illness Policy
We know how difficult it is to have a sick child. You have to make the tough call on whether or not to send them to school. Academics are always very important. But we also need to keep in mind that some illnesses spread very rapidly and can quickly cause our friends to become sick, too. We have created a handy guide to help you decide when to go to school and when to stay home.
Student Of The Month - September
Congratulations to our September Student of The Month crew! We announced all the recipients at our assembly Friday. The energy was amazing as each student was cheered on by all their friends.
Class Spotlight - Kindergarten
Elijah and Hudson are practicing picking books up by the spine.
Lincoln is practicing his writing in shaving cream.
Abby enjoying a messy activity.
Cooper is practicing turning pages by the corner to prevent pages from tearing.
Peter is practicing reading his book flat on the table.
Wyatt is working on putting books back in the boxes with the title and cover facing up and out.
We have had a busy start to kindergarten learning new routines and procedures for just about everything! We’ve started working on reading, writing, and math curriculum and will begin science and social studies soon. In reading students have learned book handling skills such as; picking books up by the spine, laying them flat on the table to read, turning pages by the corner, and putting them away with the title and cover facing up and out. We have also started learning the “rules” for reading workshop and have been practicing what it looks like and sounds like when everyone is “reading.” To introduce writing names on the top of their papers, we practiced writing our names in shaving cream. It was messy…but fun!
