Keeping Up with Comm Arts

~ September 11, 2023 ~

Hello Comm Arts Family and Friends!

Last week, our administration conducted assemblies in which Comm Arts behavior was introduced to new students or reviewed for current ones. As a friendly reminder, dress code issues will be addressed more rigorously now that everyone has been taught the acceptable way to be prepared to learn. Please help us by reminding your child(ren) to follow all school rules, which also includes wearing their IDs for safety purposes. Thanks so much for your support!

Tuesday, September 12th, is picture day for Seniors! Seniors, stop by Ms. De La Rosa's room (C205) for your picture times. Grades are due this Friday, September 15th, for Progress reports. Progress reports will be available on HAC on Monday, September 18th.

Our Student Council will have its first meeting on September 14th during the second half of lunch in Mr. Harris' room.

*Date Change* Picture retakes for 9th- 11th graders for the 2023-2024 school year are now tentatively scheduled for October 26th. I apologize for the miscommunication.

Grades, Attendance & Email

Students, please check your grades, attendance, and email regularly. If you notice a discrepancy in your attendance, please inform your teacher ASAP. Also, if you are absent, please check Schoology for information about what you are missing in class. Some work can be completed at home. This will help you from feeling behind. Parents, if you can partner with us and keep an eye on attendance and grades, it would be greatly appreciated.

Please note that student remote conferencing, contact tracing, and "COVID" absences are no longer available. Students who are out must bring a parent note to receive an excused absence. For more information, refer to the COVID-19 Information page: https://www.nisd.net/schools/health/covid.

Online tutoring support is available. Tutors will be available for the core content as well as Spanish. Links are available in Schoology, HAC, and NISD Portal. More information is located at the bottom of the NISD page for students. Online tutoring will NOT count towards AR this year. All Attendance Recovery will need to be completed in person at Comm Arts.

Campus Needs Assessment - Your child will receive a Needs Assessment via email within the next two weeks in a Google form to ask about counseling services. The purpose of the Needs Assessment is to help us to identify and prioritize how to best serve our campus.

As we head to the 3rd week of school and students are settling into a school routine, it’s important for students to take preventative measures to help them stay on track by making good grades, thus reducing their stress and/or anxiety levels. One of the ways to reduce stress/anxiety is to stay organized, such as managing your time wisely, having a clean and neat area to study, away from distractions, etc... Senior Portraits

Seniors, if you haven't already done so, please call Prestige at (210) 691-1284 or visit our local Prestige website to set up your senior portrait session. Only pictures taken with Prestige will be in the yearbook. Please keep these things in mind:

  1. Make sure they have you as a Communications Arts student NOT Taft.
  2. Our yearbook pose is a cap and gown NOT tux and drape. Be sure that the cap and gown you are given is WHITE with a red and white tassel, and for those in NHS, our stole is blue NOT white. The yearbook pose is cap on, and you MUST BE DRESS CODE COMPLIANT. We will NOT be Photoshopping pictures.
  3. Yearbook ONLY sessions are free, but we encourage you to choose a package with a variety of outfits and poses to reflect your personality and interests.
  4. Please consider purchasing a portrait package. A percentage of each sale is returned to our yearbook account to cover the cost of printing the portraits in the yearbook.
  5. Be sure to have your pictures taken by Nov. 3rd, so you can be included in the yearbook. The sooner the better, so you have time to do retakes if you are unhappy with the first session pictures.
  6. Prestige will be on campus on Sept. 12th for those without transportation to their studio or for any yearbook pose retakes. The date is for yearbook pictures ONLY.

Yearbook 2023-2024

Comm Arts will have its own yearbook this year! Online yearbook sales are now live. The pdfs below have additional information.
