NEW Important information:
- Our Red Ribbon Week is next week. See below for our themes/dress up days.
- We will be having a Character Parade on October 29th at 8:30 and parents are welcome to attend. All students will exit out the school building and parade around the hard top. All parents are asked to bring chairs and sit on the grass surrounding the hardtop. Students will be parading around the building hallways prior to walking around the perimeter of the hardtop.
- Lunch Visitors are welcome back again! Please see the specific guidelines below and plan ahead for your visit. Visitors will be allowed at lunches on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays only during the 2021-2022 school year. Because of the needed social distancing and space in the cafeteria, we will follow the following schedule for visitors with student last names starting: Tuesdays: A- I and J-R, Wednesdays: J-R and S-Z, Thursdays: A-I and S-Z. There will be two opportunities each week to visit for lunch. We will limit two visitors per child.
- We will continue the School Store during lunches on the 1st and 3rd Fridays of the month.
- Please remember we start at 8am through December. Students not present in the classroom are considered tardy. Please plan ahead and make sure they get here on time.
- We are holding a writing contest for our 2nd-5th grade students. It starts now and students have until Oct. 29. It is a great opportunity to celebrate and appreciate our PGE staff and teachers. See details and how to submit below.
Important Dates:
- Oct 25 to 29th - Red Ribbon Week (see details below)

Other Important Information (from previous newsletters):
- I am often asked what parents can do at home to help students be successful in school. Here are a few things that will help:
- Make sure they are well-rested.
- Number Sense and Fact Fluency is important! For the younger Cougar Cubs, have them count by 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s and see if they can identify numbers on a ten-frame (see example below). This is easy to do in the car or on a walk.
- For the older students, pick up a set of flash cards at the Dollar Store and practice math facts in all four operations. Automaticity is attained through learning, repetition, and practice. In math, students have attained automaticity (also known as math fact fluency) when they can easily retrieve basic facts from their long-term memory in all four operations (+, −, ×, ÷) without conscious effort or attention
- Reading with fluency and comprehension: Read to your students when you can. They will learn how to read fluently by watching a good model. Have them read alongside you and ask questions about the characters, setting and plot. Ask if there is a problem and solution. Anything that can get them talking about the text.
- Please stay tuned to the district website to find out any information on COVID-19 response. https://www.fortbendisd.com/
