Principal's Message from Dr. Michelle Fox
Dear Ridgecrest Families:
Spring Break always marks the official start to the end of the school year. For the first time in two years, we are looking forward to being able to bring back many of our traditional end-of the year events. As you know, we started our Raiders Achieving Honor student achievement assemblies in the new year and have been holding those monthly; our district special education and 5th & 6th grade district track meets are also back on the calendar; we are also looking forward to Career Day is back on the calendar and more information will be coming on that. If you or someone you know would like to share your career with students, we will be asking for volunteers soon!
I am also pleased to share that our wonderful PTA is planning the Raider Run, Field Day, and 6th Grade Celebration. Based on feedback we received from our students in years' past, we are changing up the Human Car Wash! This year the top 10 students who raise money for the Raider Run will get to participate in the Human Car Wash (if you recall, in the past, the staff would be the ones getting wet by the students; this year, the students will get wet by the staff!) The kids are going to LOVE it! We also plan to have our Egg Drop before the Human Car Wash. It is going to be an eventful and fun end to our school year!
On Monday, May 9, we will be partnering with our PTA and opening our doors to all our Ridgecrest families for our AVID Open House and Grub with Grown-Ups event. The PTA will be providing muffins and breakfast treats in the classrooms so that families can come in, see some of the AVID strategies and organizational tools, and meet/greet their child's teacher. We will also have the Scholastic book fair open that week in Portable 8. We hope you save the date and plan to attend. It will be wonderful having our families fill our hallways and classrooms again!
A copy of the end-of-the-year calendar dates is posted below this newsletter story. We will get more information out as we get closer to the events.
Enjoy your spring break!
In service and support,
Michelle Fox, Ed.D.
Ridgecrest Principal

A Note from Assistant Principal, Mr. Michael Braun
Spring is in the air! As we start to transition from winter to spring in terms of the weather, we also wanted to outline dress and appearance guidance from the Puyallup School District Student Rights and Responsibilities. A copy of the handbook can be accessed here https://p11cdn4static.sharpschool.com/UserFiles/Servers/Server_141067/File/Departments/Student%20Services%20&%20School%20Safety/Rights%20&%20Responsibility%20Handbook%202021-2022%20FINAL.pdf
Specific to dress and appearance, Puyallup School District has provided students additional expectations to follow:
- No clothing with words, depictions or themes related to alcohol, tobacco, drug use, violence, weapons or gang affiliations including bandanas or colors that create real or foreseeable disruption of the educational process.
- No sexually oriented text, themes, or depictions.
- Clothing and/or accessory styles that create conflict or an atmosphere of intimidation are prohibited.
- Clothing styles that are excessively revealing, creating a material and substantial disruption to the educational process.
- All students must wear shoes. For safety reasons flip-flops, slippers and shoes with wheels “wheelies” are not allowed.
- Sunglasses may not be worn inside unless for medical reasons.
- No hats may be worn in the building during school hours. Hats must be stored in backpacks or cubbies once a student arrives on campus.
- No hoods pulled up over head allowed inside.
- Face paint, masks, or other face coverings are prohibited
This year we have been a bit more lenient and allowed students to wear hats and hoods in the building in response to higher levels of social anxiety demonstrated when students returned to in-person learning this year. However, we have decided it is time to get back in alignment with district expectations and will be asking all students to refrain from wearing hats or hoods inside the school and classrooms when they return from Spring Break. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns as we seek to support your students in having a strong finish to the school year.
Thanks, and have a wonderful day!
Mr. Braun
