Welcome to Austin High School's Community Newsletter where we share all of the important information, amazing activities, and events occuring on our campus with our BULLDOG Family and community! To our new Freshman Bulldogs and to our returning Sophmores, Juniors and graduating Seniors.... WE WELCOME YOU to the DAWGHOUSE! We are excited about the 2021-2022 school year!

Principal Corner

Happy Fall Weekend!


We had a great homecoming week and saw some great participation from our students and staff. We hope your child was able to participate in the fun. We also had our first dance in almost two years, our 2021 Homecoming Dance on Saturday. It was a great event and it was awesome to see our students celebrate with their friends.


As we get closer to the end of the year, the end of the first semester is quickly approaching. PLEASE encourage your student to keep up with their assignments and do all they can to obtain their credits this semester. It's important that we support them in their learning and have your support as well.


Please read through this newsletter for additional information about our campus and upcoming activities. Thank you very much for your support, understanding and flexibility as we work to provide the best learning environment during a pandemic. Student Recognition

Thank you to all our students, families and staff members who contributed to our Hurricane Ida Relief Drive. We collected over 600 items to donate to those in need. Our students continue to demonstrate the Profile of a Graduate traits, by being compassionate citizens. Thank you for your support!

Tardies

Please talk to your student about being on time to school and each class period. We have started marking tardies and providing consequences to excessive tardies. Each family has access to attendance records through Skyward Family Access.


Please also remember that students should be in their classrooms prior to 7:30, please remember that traffic is heaviest from 7:15-7:30. We recommend that students arrive by 7:15, to allow ample time to be in their classroom by 7:30.

AHS ORCHESTRA NEWS

On October 9th, our Stephen F. Austin Orchestra participated in the TMEA Region competition. Since May of 2021, the orchestra has been preparing and practicing their hardest to compete with other schools in the district. Only very few students are accepted into the two region orchestras, Symphony and Philharmonic, so congratulations to all those who participated in such a difficult competition! And a special congratulations to all those who made it! Keep on working hard and good luck competing in State - Go Bulldogs!

On a separate note, The orchestra’s senior quartet had the honor to perform at the Fireman’s Ball on September 11th, the 20th anniversary of the World Trade Center terrorist attacks. The day before, the orchestra performed America, The Beautiful to honor those who have served this country.

This month's SEPAC meeting will take place on Tuesday October 19th at 6:00 p.m. via ZOOM. We will discuss general resources in the community and also watch portions of "Independent Living Opportunities Available to Special Needs Young Adults After High School" from Consolidated Planning Group. AHS CAMPUS ACTIVITIES

Ongoing Announcements

Morning Arrival

Our school day starts at 7:30 am, students should be in their classrooms by the 7:30 bell. Parents, please make sure to get your student to school on time. We are seeing a high number of students late in the morning. Having your student on campus by 7:15 assures a smooth start to their school day. Thank you for your cooperation.

Food Deliveries

All FBISD Campuses are closed campuses, therefore, students are not allowed to leave campus once they arrive. Students who have off campus periods have been given a pass to show the parking lot attendant.


Please remember that food deliveries are not allowed at AHS. This includes any delivery of food, either from family or delivery services. All students are allowed to receive a free lunch from our Child Nutrition Department through the lunch lines. We appreciate your support and cooperation.

Attendance

Please send all attendance notes to attendanceahs@fortbendisd.com. If you are sending a doctor’s note, please take a picture or scan it and attach to the email. If your student needs to leave early from school, please email the attendance office as soon as possible, so we can send a pass to your student. This makes is very helpful for when a student is in athletics and we are unable to reach their coach. Our latest pick up time is 2:20, so please be here by 2:15 in order to sign your student out and always bring in your picture ID. Please remember that traffic gets backed up, so you may have to wait. Thank you!

STUDENT DROP-OFF

Dear AHS Parents,


Welcome back to another Exciting Year at Austin High School, Home of The Bulldogs!!

We would like to share some information with you regarding Morning Student Drop-Off.

The best time to drop your student off at AHS with little to no traffic is usually between 7:00 AM and 7:15 AM. After 7:15 AM the traffic flow becomes heavy and students risk being late to 1st period.

Areas for Drop-Off: Front Circle and Student Parking Lot Area (Northside of the Building)

Please Do Not Attempt To Drop Your Student Off on The Bus Ramp Side of the Building,this area is for School Vehicles and School Personnel Only!

STUDENT TEXTBOOK REQUEST

The window for textbook request has ended for the semester. Any new students enrolling in AHS will need to stop by room 107 to request textbooks.

STUDENT PARKING PERMITS

Student permits are available for purchase in office 108 ONLY during lunches. The fee is $35. Please see Ms. Horace if you have questions.

FREE AND REDUCED MEAL PROGRAM

Applications for Free and Reduced-Price Meals will be available online as of August 2nd, 2021. Parents can visit www.schoolcafe.com/fbisd to complete an online application.


There are numerous benefits to qualifying for free or reduced meals, including SAT/ACT reduced fees, college application waivers, etc..

AHS ATHLETIC ACTIVITIES

We are excited to begin the 21-22 athletic events for the fall semester! We invite all parents and community members to come and support our Bulldogs in elevating our school pride! Please see the schedules below for dates and locations. We look forward to seeing you there!
