Reeceville Elementary School
Monday Morning Message: November 2, 2020
Return to In-Person Instruction: November 9, 2020
All students have been assigned to cohorts and information has been sent home. In the case that families would like to change their selection for virtual or in-person learning, you must send an email to celotton@casdschools.org detailing your request, including the names of your children at Reeceville and in any other schools in the district. You will be placed on a master list and will be notified when and if the change will be effective. In the case of moving from virtual to In-person instruction, we must ensure we have the space and staff available to accommodate the move to in-person instruction.
Beginning on November 9, students will be following the building schedule. Teachers will be providing students with their new schedule to follow, so they will know when to zoom in to the direct instruction for which the teacher is providing. It is imperative that students follow the schedules that are provided by their teachers, as this new schedule will include the content area times as well as related arts, lunch, recess, and grade level-specific intervention times.
We appreciate your flexibility and support as we navigate the new environment of learning.
Return to In-Person Instruction Building Protocols
We will be following the recommendations, guidelines and protocol per the District, CDC, PDE and CCHD. In the classroom, cafeteria, playground area, and travel locations around the building, we will be implementing specific protocol and mitigation procedures. We will also have a sanitation schedule for each classroom and building location.
Classroom
- All desks are spaced six feet apart in the classroom per guidelines and recommendations.
- Each student will be assigned an organizer to store their materials, which will be placed on the floor next to the student desk.
- Students should remain in their seats during the duration of the class, unless otherwise informed by the classroom teacher. Social distancing will be maintained through the duration of the day.
- Students do not have to stay live the entire day. Similarly to virtual learning, direct instruction should be live. Independent practice may be asynchronous.
- Students are not able to sing in the classroom even wearing masks.
- Mask breaks have been scheduled by teachers to locations outside the building to give students the opportunity to take off their mask while socially distancing.
Classroom Resources and Materials
Our goal is to minimize the sharing of high-touch materials to the extent possible (art supplies, math manipulatives, science equipment, etc.).
- Canvas will continue to be used as the primary medium for student work; however, there will be times that students must use paper and real-world materials. In this event, materials will not be shared amongst students.
- Teachers can provide students with books from their classroom library, and students will keep those books in their individual organizer.
- When a student is finished with a book, the teacher will have a bin that books can be placed in and quarantined for 72 hours before returning back to circulation for other students (even though the CDC states that books/paper have a very minimal risk for transmission).
Related Arts and Project Lead the Way Teachers
- Related Arts and PLTW teachers will be rotating into the general education classrooms to provide instruction during the designated related art time to minimize cross contamination among classes and grade levels.
- Related Arts and PLTW teachers may take students outside of the building.
Cleaning and Disinfecting
- Custodial staff will have a routine cleaning and disinfecting schedule.
- Every evening the entire building will be deep cleaned.
- Areas that are frequently touched areas may be cleaned multiple times throughout the day.
- Staff that are responsible for cleaning and disinfecting are trained to use the disinfectants safely and effectively.
- All areas will be sanitized in the lunchroom prior to the next grade level entering.
Travel and Maintaining Social Distancing
- Travel in the building will be limited.
- Group travel will move clockwise through the building.
- When traveling, teachers will ensure they are maintaining social distancing with their classes.
- Raptor prints are spray painted on the floors six feet apart as a visual reminder of social distancing.
Lunch/Recess
- Before lunch, each student will hand sanitize or wash his/her hands.
- Students will have assigned seating in the cafeteria and will be socially distanced at the tables with Plexiglass dividers between each child.
- After each grade level lunch, students will be brought out to the playground for recess.
- Students will hand sanitize before moving to the recess yard.
- After recess, students will hand sanitize or wash their hands.
- Students will have individual baggies for indoor recess.
- Water fountains have been turned off and bottle fillers have been acquired for water needs.
Bathroom Use
- Students will be reminded to wash their hands with warm water for 20 seconds.
- Every other sink will be used in both group restrooms.
- The classroom bathrooms will be used if available to alleviate the number of students in group bathrooms.
Arrival and Dismissal
- At arrival and dismissal, primary and intermediate students will travel clockwise around the building to get to their classroom/bus
- Two separate entrances will be used for primary and intermediate students to load/unload busses.
Our Classrooms are Ready to Go!
My Indoor Recess Baggie
If it is raining the children will have indoor recess. Indoor recess takes place in our classrooms and the children will play at their desks. Since communal toys/games/puzzles/activities will not be used, students are free to bring some from home. Students will also have the choice to use their own crayon/markers/colored pencils to complete coloring pages or draw (provided by us).
Please refrain from sending in anything of value or electronic devices. Good choices may be miniature cars, figurines, small toys, favorite books, or small puzzles. Whatever you choose, it must fit in a gallon size Ziploc bag. Please send anything in in a Ziploc bag with your child’s name on it. If you do not have a baggie, we will provide your child with one. Feel free to periodically send in items that may be swapped out as the year progresses. These items will be for your child’s use only.

21st Century After School Program
Hello Reeceville Elementary Families!!!!
My name Ms.Claudette, and I am the Program Coordinator with the 21st Century After School Program at Reeceville Elementary. This school year we would like to share some exciting news and tell you all about some new learning experiences that is going to be offered to your child(ren).
Like many schools throughout Chester County, classes are being offered remotely/virtually. Many teachers have begun to incorporate new tools and resources into their daily lessons. And students are experiencing new methods of learning which has an important, lasting impact on their educational experience. Throughout this transition, it has become very apparent that with the required physical distance between teachers and students, it is more important than ever to find ways to connect with students and keep them actively engaged, motivated and safe within the virtual learning experience.
I am excited to share with you that the 21st Century will be offering a virtual after school program. Our program will be operating Monday through Thursday. During this time your child will be provided with academic support that will assist with daily school assignments, extension activities and/or homework. Our program will also provide STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) and Social Emotional Learning Enrichment.
Our 21st Century teachers will also be utilizing the Matific, educational math program. This program has over 1,500 interactive and engaging math activities and lessons. It is one of the most effective ways to help children learn the fundamentals of mathematics. Implementing Matific is an EXCELLENT way to help boost “math confidence” within children, while turning screen time into learning time.
If you would like your child to participate in the 21st Century Virtual After School Program, please feel free to contact me:
Claudette Wilson, Program Coordinator

I look forward to speaking with all of you and starting this new and exciting school year!!
