Upcoming Events & Information for Pleasantdale Families
A Note from the Principal's Office
October 21, 2018
Dear PES Families,
What a great time we had at the Halloween Hop! Thank you to all the families who joined us and all the volunteers who made the night a success. The new Truck-or-Treat was a definite hit with everyone! I'm proud to be part of a community that brings families together for a fun-filled event, understanding that traditions like these are important.
- Did you know? Mrs. Lisowski and Mrs. Marrari host an afterschool club, called Intro to Coding. This club is for those new to coding and meets weekly in the Art Room/MakerSpace. The coders are learning to connect the Sphero.ed-devices named Ollie and Sphero. These devices are electrically propelled robots that connect, or "pairs", to the iPad via Bluetooth. Once paired with the iPad, the coders use the Tickle app to program the devices to move and complete specific challenges. The coders work in pairs to complete these task. The climate and culture of this club allow students to gain experience solving problems collaboratively. Check out the pictures below to see our very own PES Coders in action.
- Conference Sign-up will begin on November 1st. Information was emailed to all parents last Friday. Please check this email for important information about how to sign up for an opportunity to meet with your child(ren)'s teacher(s). If you are unavailable during the scheduled conference days (November 19-20), please feel free to reach out to your child's teacher to set up an alternative time.
- Safety Drills are an important part of helping our students and staff prepare for emergencies. Last week we continued our drills with the Hard Lockdown Drill on Friday. The Willow Springs Police Department were on hand to help us evaluate our procedure and identify areas where we can improve. The students and staff responded appropriately and it was a successful drill. In fact, the police asked if we had students in the building! As we continue to seek ways to improve our security, I ask that parents reach out to me directly if they see an area for safety improvement. By working together, and sharing ideas from our lens, we are best able to protect our students and staff.
- The Halloween Costume Parade is planned for Wednesday, October 31st at 2pm. Children are welcome to change into school appropriate costumes (no violent costumes or weapons) just prior to the parade. Families are welcome to join us for the parade. We are hoping for a warm, sunny day so the students can parade outside, though we will send more information as Halloween gets closer.
- Halloween Candy Collection is back! After the children wrap up their Trick or Treating, and complete any trading and sorting they may do, we invite students to donate extra candy to the military. Our Treats for Troops collection bins will be located at the front doors of PES for one week following Halloween.
For our students,
Ms. Tomei
