Updates from Art, Mrs. Morgan
A Note from Mrs. Morgan…
We are continuing to be creative and imaginative in the art room! Now, we get to explore weaving, fiber arts and sculpting!
Kindergarten just finished up their Picasso inspired self-portraits. They are absolutely amazing! Students will be learning how to weave using painted paper strips and construction paper. Students will also learn what a weaving loom is, a weft, a warp and the pattern over-under.
First grade is finishing up their Matisse inspired goldfish painting, as well as using paper cut outs on the frame. Students will then be learning warm and cool colors. Students will also be learning how to weave using painted paper using a variety of thick and thin paper strips.
Second grade started learning about radial symmetry. Students will then create a paper plate radial weaving using yarn. Students will review the terms loom, weft, warp and the pattern over/under.
Third grade is finishing up their Frida Kahlo inspired self-portraits. They learned about the proportions of a face in order to create their image. Students then chose their background by drawing some of their favorite items or places. Once they are done, students will be learning about printmaking.
Fourth grade started learning about the art term value. Students will be using paint to create tints and shades. Students will create a value scale for the background of their artpiece and choose their image/ item to create a focal point.
Fifth grade started learning about one-point perspective after exploring different types of shading techniques. Students will be creating their ideal bedroom using one-point perspective and a vanishing point.
Please be on the look out for student artwork displayed around the school during Portrait of a Graduate!!
