Hawk Talk
Message from Mr. Carlson
Happy Friday!
It feels like we are finally getting some real Minnesota winter weather so I wanted to make sure to remind everyone that students must bring appropriate outdoor gear to school.
Please take a look at the chart below that we use for our recess guidelines. When windchill temperatures are 0 or above, kids will be outside.
It is important for kids to get outside and run off some energy during the day, so we try to get them out as much as possible. With that in mind, please make sure to send your students to school prepared with hats, gloves, snow pants etc. Also, please put names on everything that your students bring to school. We try our best to return items that end up in the lost and found.
We also have a change in attendance reporting that will be happening soon. Please take a look at the information below.
Have a great weekend! Stay Warm and Go Hawks!!

There is still time for students to submit Yearbook Cover Artwork!
It’s time to put on your artist hat and help us design this year’s yearbook cover.
We are excited to see all the creativity as we design the
“Dream Big! Aim High!” yearbook for 2023-2024!
Entries are due by Friday, January 26th.
All Rice Lake students are invited to design and enter their creation.
Student Council members will pick the entry that captures the
“Dream Big! Aim High!” theme in the most creative and impactful way.
All entries must:
- Be on 8.5x11 inch white paper with a vertical orientation
- Include the words “Rice Lake Elementary” “Dream Big! Aim High!” and “2023-2024”
- Keep text 1 inch from the edge of the paper
- Be original student art/design/drawing
- Have the student’s name, grade, and teacher written in pencil on the back
- Be turned into the Rice Lake front office by Friday, January 26th
Tips: Use bold colors! Use the whole page. Mix up your mediums!
Try watercolor, crayon, color pencils, markers, ect. Make sure to protect your creation by
enclosing it in a large envelope or page protector.
And of course, HAVE FUN!!!!
Many thanks from the Yearbook Committee.
