Newsletter from the Week of September 21-25: Week 4

I sure am enjoying your children in the classroom! Thank you for your support last week and especially for your help with our square 1 art fundraiser! We started reading groups last week and the kids learned this new routine quickly. Most students turned in their homework last week, and their math scores proved they worked hard! It was great to see so many families at the Ice Cream Social. My son, Luke and I had a great time!

On Friday, be looking for our Friday Folder to come home. It will have completed student work in it and also school news that can stay home.

Homework Folders are coming home today. Remember we have reading, math and spelling again this week. Please return on Friday.

Looking forward to another great week with our new Top Dog, Faith!

Jog-A-Thon

Jog-A-Thon- This Friday is the Jog-A-Thon and run at 9:15-9:45, rain or shine! If it is wet outside, I recommend the kids bring an extra pair of shoes and socks. The kids will receive a shirt to wear during the jog. You are welcome to come out and help cheer on our runners! Hopefully the kids are collecting pledges, if possible. I understand not everyone is able to give, so no pressure. Pledges are due October 6th.

Field Trip

Our October 20th field trip is still in need of one chaperone! Please email me if you'd like to join our class. Let me know by October 9th!

Book Orders

Our first book order will be in the Homwork Folder this week. Orders are due by next Friday, October 8th. The link is: https://clubs2.scholastic.com/
And our class activation code is NJY7C
The more books you order, the more books our classroom gets! Many books are only just a few dollars!

Title I A

We are very fortunate to have the federally funded Title IA Program in our school. This program provides supplemental instruction in reading. Our Title IA team includes teachers Jody Vanegas and Laurie Carter. The team also includes educational assistants Christine Thomas and Michelle Trunnell. All Title IA staff is highly qualified.

Students qualify for Title IA services based on screening that is done for every child during the first few weeks of school and assessments given throughout the year. Requests from classroom teachers and parents are also considered. We use the most recent data available to qualify students for TIA services. Students receive additional instruction in a small group setting. Instruction is usually 30 minutes, five days each week. Lessons take place during the classroom reading block so children do not miss instruction in other subjects. These lessons are in addition to instruction from their classroom teacher. Students move in and out of the program as needs arise.
