A Message from Ms. Cimino

January was another great month here at Potter School. Our PTA sponsored a fun night at our second annual Escape the Room Challenge, and we had a wonderful Winter Concert. We have many other great events coming up over the next few months so be on the lookout! Our annual Gift Auction will be on Saturday April 14. This is our school's biggest fundraiser, and we appreciate all of your support. Please send in your orders ASAP as tables are filling up fast and will sell out shortly. We look forward to an exciting rest of the year!

Now that the cold is here, please remember to make sure that your child is dressed appropriately. We ask that coats and warm clothing are worn each day, students may go outside for recess if the weather permits.

Please remember that if school needs to close for inclement weather, notifications will immediately go out via phone, text and/or email. Please make sure that your contact information is up to date in the Parent Portal. If your phone number changes, please update the Parent Portal immediately.

Note that closings or delays will also be posted on our district Facebook page, and on our website at www.btboe.org.

Barnes and Noble Book Fair

On Friday, February 9th, H&M Potter will be having a fundraiser at Barnes & Noble in Brick from 6-8pm. On this night we will have special guests from Potter School promoting our amazing school and the love of reading! A percentage of all purchases made in the store that day will come back to Potter School. Don't miss out, we look forward to seeing you there!

If you want to shop online between the dates of 2/9 -2/14 you may enter this code as your Book Fair ID Number: 12316865. This will allow Potter to get credit for the online purchases.

In the store, shoppers just have to tell the cashier that they are from H&M Potter. The in-store promotion is only good for 2/9 at the Brick location. Shoppers can visit the store at any time that day to support our Book Fair.

Anyone can say they are supporting Potter school on that day for us to get credit. Please let any grandparents, aunts, uncles, or family know that they can help!

Transportation Update

Attention all parents and guardians:

Student safety is always our number one priority. Just some important reminders when you see our Berkeley Township School District busses traveling throughout town:

Motorists should drive with extra caution around children going to/from school:

  • Obey signs, signals, and crossing guards in school zones.

  • Slow down especially with children walking/biking to school and around bus stops and in school zones and in low light or bad weather.

  • Learn and obey the school bus laws in your State.

  • Drive focused and alert at all times. Avoid use of electronic devices and other distracting behaviors while driving.

  • Ensure everyone in the vehicle is buckled up properly and that children are in the back seat in the proper seat.

  • Drop off so the child does not have to cross the street, and then avoid U-turns.

  • Look for and expect to see pedestrians and bicyclists, especially before and after school.

School bus riders are safest when children:

  • Stay three giant steps (six feet) away from the curb when waiting for the bus; and when the school bus arrives, wait until the driver says to board.

  • Quickly board the school bus, find a seat, sit facing the front, and do what the school bus driver and safety patrols say to do.

  • Getting off the bus, cross in front at least five giant steps (10 feet) away and look left-right-left for traffic. Wait for the driver to signal it is safe to cross

If you have a concern about the bus or and issue with students on the bus, please contact your school’s administration.

February is National Children's Dental Health Month

Each February, the American Dental Association (ADA) sponsors National Children's Dental Health Month to raise awareness about the importance of oral health. NCDHM messages and materials have reached millions of people in communities across the country.

Healthy teeth are important to your child's overall health. From the time your child is born, there are things you can do to promote healthy teeth and prevent cavities. For babies, you should clean teeth with a soft, clean cloth or baby's toothbrush. Avoid putting the baby to bed with a bottle and check teeth regularly for spots or stains.

For all children, you should

  • Start using a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste when they are two years old. You might start sooner, if a dentist or doctor suggests it.
  • Provide healthy foods and limit sweet snacks and drinks
  • Schedule regular dental check-ups

Forming good habits at a young age can help your child have healthy teeth for life. For resources about National Children's Dental Health Month go to www.mouthhealthy.org/en/babies-and-kids/healthy-habits.

If you need help in finding a dentist for your child, please contact the school nurse!!
