A Note from Our Nurse
Flu vaccine during Covid-19 pandemic
Health professionals are encouraging everyone to get the flu vaccine especially this year. At this writing, we do not know the effect of a dual diagnosis of Covid-19 and the seasonal flu might be on a person’s body. The flu vaccine takes up to two weeks to reach peak effectiveness. It takes two weeks for antibodies to develop and protect us from the seasonal flu. So getting the vaccine in September or October will help provide the best protection for the flu season. Flu vaccination should still be offered throughout the flu season, even into January or later. CDC recommends for all people 6 months and older get a flu vaccine every year. We have Seward local providers that have the flu vaccine available now.

COOPER LANDING SCHOOL
We are working to revamp our school website to make it more user-friendly and informative. We are also working on our Facebook page. Please stay tuned!
Don't forget that this coming weekend is Labor Day weekend. School will resume on Tuesday, September 8th.
Hope School
We've kicked off to a great start! With 26 kids enrolled this year, the school is a-buzz with activity and happy noise. A special shout out goes to our 5 online students who are doing a GREAT job so far!
If you haven't already, please fill out volunteer paperwork. In order to do anything more than drop your child off, you'll need to have this finished as soon as possible. You can find the application online here: https://www.kpbsd.k12.ak.us/employment.aspx?id=19556
We are sending home a field trip permission slip today for walks off campus. We plan to take a variety of nature walks, walks for PE and hikes around Hope this year. Please sign a permission slip for each of your children authorizing us to take them on organized group walks throughout the year. Also included is a volunteer indemnification form. If you are interested in chaperoning, please fill out this form with your information, and sign and date. We will need these back next Monday, the 31st of August.
Finally, we are looking for a new PTO president! As many of you know, the Skaarens are not at the Hope School this year. If you are interested in being the president, or would like to nominate someone, please email Molly at mtrostel@kpbsd.k12.ak.us. We will need to find a new officer by 9/17, our typical first PTO meeting date.
