Language Arts
We have been reading the trickster play, The Catch of the Day and identifying the author’s purpose. We have also started a classroom blog on Kidblog. Your child can access it from home using their four-digit number. Ask them to show you what we’ve been blogging about! The address is: www.kidblog.org/MsHartleysFifthGraders/
Math
We have been working on various conversions using multiplication. Your child should be able to covert the following measurements: feet to inches, meters to centimeters, meters to millimeters, kilograms to grams, pounds to ounces, and yards to feet. This past week we participated in the Hour of Code. Ask your child about what they did for the Hour of Code.
Social Studies
In social studies we have been focusing on why the English, Spanish, French, and Dutch came to America to settle in the late 1500s and early 1600s. We also created vocabulary cards on the app, Thinglink. Some of the vocabulary words we’ve been studying are colony, plantation, presidio, raw material, cash crop, indentured servant, and ally.
