Celebration of William Shakespeare's 400th Anniversary
Kick Off City-wide Celebration of William Shakespeare's 400th Anniversary
- Accompanied by representatives from Louisville’s arts and cultural institutions, Mayor Greg Fischer officially announced an eight-month-long, city-wide celebration of William Shakespeare called Will in the Ville. This collaborative initiative—spearheaded by the Frazier History Museum, University of Louisville, and the Louisville Free Public Library—involves more than 45 arts, cultural, and educational organizations throughout Louisville and Southern Indiana. As part of the international commemoration of the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare’s death, it aims to make Louisville a “city of Shakespeare.”
- Shakespeare events begin this month and continue throughout 2016.
- “Shakespeare’s writing is timeless – beautiful and poetic – and the city is honored to host this important celebration of all things from the Bard of Avon,” Fischer said.
- The First Folio, published in 1623, seven years after Shakespeare’s death, is the first collected edition of his plays, many of which were not published during his lifetime.
- When the First Folio arrives in Louisville, its pages will be opened to the most quoted line from Shakespeare and one of the most quoted lines in the world, “To be, or not to be,” from Hamlet. Accompanying the rare book will be a multi-panel exhibition exploring the significance of Shakespeare, then and now, with additional digital content and interactive activities. "...this will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to come within inches of one of the most influential books in history,” said Penelope Peavler, President & CEO of the Frazier History Museum.
- First Folio! The Book that Gave Us Shakespeare premieres in Louisville at the Frazier History Museum on November 10 and will be free and open to the public. A schedule of programs, activities, and performances is available online at LFPL.org/WillintheVille. And you can follow the conversation on Twitter and Instagram using #WillintheVille.

Teacher Appreciation Week - 4/25–4/29
Please join us in celebrating our Teachers and Staff during Teacher Appreciation Week April 25th – 29th.
Our teachers and staff are superheroes and during Teacher Appreciation Week we want to show them how much we love and appreciate them.
Here is how you can help: Have your child make a poster about school and his or her favorite teachers so that we can decorate the halls with them. (Posters were due into the office yesterday, Thursday, April 21st.)
Have children make thank you cards for their favorite teachers and staff. (Cards don’t have to be just for primary teachers. Please remember our art, computer, SPD, music and all teachers and staff.)
- Monday, April 25th – Breakfast Day: We are in need of the following: 1 gallon of milk, orange juice, Keurig K –cups (coffee), yogurt, fruit, bagels, muffins, donuts, cream cheese, butter, cups, napkins, plates, forks, bottled water and 2 liters for the week. (Please email me if you are able to donate items so we don’t have too much of one thing.)
- Tuesday, April 26th – Sweet Treats Day: Send in your favorite homemade dessert. I know we have a lot of great bakers in our school family. Let’s shower everyone with sweets.
- Wednesday, April 27th – Teacher Luncheon: Lunch will be provided by the PTO. We will also have gift cards and prizes to raffle to the teachers. If you could provide a small gift card or know of a business that could provide a service or donation, that would be great.
- Thursday, April 28th – Snack Packs: We will be putting together snack packs for the teachers to take to their classrooms. Supplies needed are: bottles of water, chips, candy bars, granola bars, fruit, drink mixes, gum, mints, candy etc. (these items should be sent in prior to Thursday, April 28th
- Friday, April 29th – Texas Roadhouse Lunch: We will have lunch provided by Texas Roadhouse. During the week, Mrs. Jones will provide shellac manicures to the teachers. There are many ways that you can show appreciation to the teachers and staff. They make a powerful and positive impact on our children every day and deserve to be recognized for their care and dedication.
We cannot make this week a success without your help. If you have any suggestions or could help provide any of the items above it would be greatly appreciated.
We have 29 teachers and staff members. Please send me an email at dawsonsmommy@twc.com, or call me at (502)379-0323, if you are able to help so that we will be able to coordinate all donations and make sure that we have enough items to support all of the staff.
Thank you for your support. Because of our teachers and staff, we have a great school! Let’s make this the best Teacher Appreciation week ever!!
