Staff Newsletter - Week of 09/17/2018
I am still so excited about the progress we made in one year on the WSA. This success doesn't happen by accident! It occurred because of our relentless pursuit in providing effective instruction everyday for ALL students. It takes all of us to continue this important work for our students. Thank you! You are appreciated! We will celebrate on the October 8th workday.
FYI:
- Whistles for homeroom teachers were distributed on Thursday. Please use them on the playground when you are lining up your students.
- NEW Copiers - We got 2 new copiers in the office! They are smaller but they are both pretty fast. Say good-bye to the monster copier!
- Scheduling parent meetings - The front office closes at 4:45. If you have scheduled to meet a parent, please be prepared to greet them in the foyer.
- Sub Coverage for IEP or SST meetings - Sub coverage is provided and scheduled ahead of time for these meetings. Since there is only one stellar sub, the meeting scheduler will need discuss any issues with coverage ahead of time with the AP.
International Night is Thursday! Thank you to the Social Studies Committee who have done a great job planning and organizing for this event. A special shout out to Mrs. Bridges and Mrs. Baker for all of the extra hard work they put in. ALL Certified Staff are required to attend this event. Please see one of the A Team if you have an emergency arise on Thursday.
Have an awesome week of learning!

Quality-Plus Teaching Strategies Highlight: Literacy
This week's focus is on the Foundational Quality-Plus Teaching Strategy of Literacy. The Literacy strategy focuses on explicitly teaching, modeling, and practicing the cognitive strategies for listening, speaking, reading and writing in all content areas. Literacy provides students with a foundation for academic achievement, and "becomes the currency of other learning" (Hattie, 2017). When using Literacy strategies, the teacher will identify, model, and provide students with frequent, extended opportunities to listen, speak, read, and write in student centered activities requiring students to actively use specific content language.
