Parents, please be aware that one of the top-promoted Netflix shows called Squid Games contains highly violent and sexual material not appropriate for children. It has bright colors and playground games that might appeal to children or give the impression that the show is child-friendly. In reality, the series is rated MA by Netflix(not suitable for people under 17). Common Sense Media rates the show as 16 and over and warns: "Parents need to know that the level of violence is very intense in Squid Game. Characters are systematically tortured and killed for the sadistic pleasure of a game master. Adults have sex, and there are threats of sexual violence: Women are grabbed by the hair and beaten." We are hearing students discuss the show at school, which is inappropriate and not allowed, and we wanted to share this important information. Thank you for your help.
Elementary Transfer Requests
October 28, 2021 will be the last day that elementary transfer requests will be accepted for the rest of the 2021-22 school year (OP 3131 2.5). This is the only time Admissions and Enrollment will offer this transfer for boundary change opportunity during the 2021-22 school year. Exceptions will be made based on special education offerings, district-determined placement, balancing enrollment of disciplinary or safety concerns (OP 3131 2.6). Individual Online ONLY transfer requests remain open due to COVID concerns until further notice. Transfer Request forms for Online are available at the YSD Student Family Center (105 N. 4th Ave), or click here for more information.
Absences add up for students and can make learning difficult. Starting in kindergarten, absences can cause children to fall behind in school. Missing just a 1-2 days of school each month delays reading and math skills.
Between now and Winter Break, let's make a push for strong attendance whenever possible.
- Make sure your child is at school EVERY DAY unless quarantined/symptomatic, and please schedule appointments after 3:30 pm.
- If symptom-free, get a free COVID test after 5 days to return to school faster.
- If absent, send a ParentSquare message to the teacher to learn about make-up work
I would like to give the Spirit of the Bear Award to Debbie McLean. Mrs. McLean is a talented teacher that makes learning exciting and fun. Debbie accelerates students' learning with her energetic teaching. Every student in her classroom is loved, appreciated, and valued. Ms. McLean gives herself to the students 110%. She is an exceptionally kind and giving individual.
