Keeping it R.E.A.L. at West Terrace
Back to School important information
Good evening,
We would like to welcome you back to a productive, fun, and exciting school year. There are a few changes, about which you need to know before the school year begins. You will hear more detail about these items in our upcoming newsletters and from your teachers.
- Open House is Friday from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm for all 1st through 5th grade students. Kindergarten teachers will not be here. You may bring your school supplies, meet your teachers, and walk around the building at your convenience.
- Our start and end times this year will be 8:15 am-3:10 pm. Students may enter the building after 7:45. This is a ten minute shift from last year. Please make arrangements for before school care if your child needs to enter the building before 7:45.
- The Extended Day Care Center (before and after school care) will not be an open enrollment this year. We may be limited to 75 spots which have quickly been filling. This information was sent to families last year, but I wanted the new enrollees to get the information, too. PLEASE come in and complete the paperwork as soon as possible, or FAX the paperwork to us. We are putting the dates and times on them as we receive them for the first come, first served process that will be used.
- We are getting a new roof over much of the east side of our building!! As a result, our far east drop off lane will be shifted and compromised some. Please watch for the new traffic pattern and use extreme caution when entering and exiting the property.
- We are excited to be adding some additional commitments to our Healthy Schools approach. Part of these commitments were seen last year in our gym class, the 4K4Kids event, and our Field Day, as well as an emphasis on nutrition education. We are adding some structure to our nutrition education and walking the walk. This means we will be changing the way we celebrate birthdays and other parties at school.
- We will no longer be permitting food treats of any kind for birthday celebrations with the exception of one day a month West Terrace will provide a treat for birthday celebrants during the lunch period.
- We ask that the food provided at the two parties each year follow the healthy schools guidelines. You will receive more information about that in our first newsletter.
- We will no longer be permitting food treats of any kind for birthday celebrations with the exception of one day a month West Terrace will provide a treat for birthday celebrants during the lunch period.
- We are changing our PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Strategy) to Keeping it REAL! R=respect + E=effort + A=attitude equals L=learning and leadership. We are excited about this change and look forward to seeing all the ways the children "keep it REAL" this year!
- Please remember that parking on our lot and in our neighborhood are very limited. If you can, please have your child ride the bus to school. If you cannot do so, please be cautious as you travel the neighborhood streets and watch for other parents and children in cars and walking.
We look forward to a great year!
