Ripon Cathedral School Update
Week ending Friday 28th May 2021
Anyone for Cricket?
Tom from All Stars Cricket, assisted by Adam a coach from North Stainley Cricket Club, very much enjoyed their coaching sessions with our children. We are sure all the classes loved their chance to play cricket with some experts too. Please take note of the information below to get your child signed up for more cricket coaching, with All Stars for the younger age group and Dynamos for 8 to 11 year olds.
What is All Stars Cricket?
All Stars Cricket provides a fantastic first experience for all children aged 5-8 years old where they’re guaranteed 8 weeks of jam-packed fun, activity and skills development. The programme is designed to introduce children to the sport, teaching them new skills, helping them make new friends and have a great time doing so. With an emphasis on FUN! Children will learn fundamental movement skills including catching, throwing and batting. Soft balls and plastic bats are used by everyone and all participants are given their very own cricket bag full of everything they need to play the game. Happening at a local club near you for 8 weeks! Your local club running All Stars Cricket is North Stainley Cricket Club. Their direct booking link is:
What is Dynamos Cricket?
Dynamos cricket provides a fantastic next step for those graduating from All Stars Cricket and the perfect introduction for 8-11 year-olds new to the sport! Complementing junior cricket, Dynamos provides children with a more social offer focused on developing fundamental movement skills and applying them in an exciting game of Countdown cricket. Every child who registers will receive their very own Dynamos Cricket New Balance t-shirt, personalised with their name and number!

Visit to the Little Ripon Bookshop
Following on from our Pyjamarama Day last Friday, we have continued to develop our love for books and stories in Reception. Every afternoon this week, a small group of children have walked to The Little Ripon Bookshop where we have thoroughly enjoyed looking at the beautiful books and listening to stories. Each group carefully selected one book to take back to the class to add to our bookshelf. We were very proud of how sensibly and safely the children walked through Ripon. They were a credit to the school! A very big THANK YOU to The Little Ripon Bookshop for very kindly allowing us to visit.

Year 3 Forest Schools
On Wednesday, Year 3 were treated to a one-off Forest School lesson based on the Anglo-Saxons. The children were tasked with creating Anglo-Saxon shield designs using only the natural materials they could scavenge from around the Forest School area, and we had some very creative results which reflected the elaborate shields used by the Anglo-Saxons themselves. The class also experimented with natural dyes from plants we could find inside the school grounds, which gave them some idea of the types of colours the Anglo-Saxons would most likely wear - they learnt that unsurprisingly there were probably lots of shades of green!
School Update
It has been another fun week in school, culminating in cricket taster sessions for children from Year 1 to Year 6. The last half term has been busy as always and we are really looking forward to the final half term of the year, as I know the teachers have lots of exciting opportunities planned for the children.
End of day
Please can we take this opportunity to remind parents to keep their children with them after picking up and leave the premises straight away. Please can we also ask that parents and carers do not allow children to climb on walls, fences and trees.
I do hope you have a super half term - the weather forecast is looking quite promising for a bit more sunshine. I look forward to welcoming you back when school reopens on Monday 7th June 2021.
Thank you for all your support.

Oscar's Club
We will not be running a holiday club in the May half term break but we are hoping to finalise our summer holiday dates soon. Most likely we will hold the club on Tuesday to Thursday in both the first and last week of the summer break.
Please contact Mrs Rich in the office if you have any questions or experience issues logging on.
