WOODGROVE HIGH SCHOOL
May 1, 2022
From the Principal's Desk...
Greetings, Wolverines.
As it always seems, spring is moving by quickly as May is upon us. The school is in full swing with activities, and the end-of-year testing season is here as well. Nevertheless, although the arrival of May signifies that another school year will soon be coming to a close, there is still much more for us to accomplish in the remaining time we have together this school year.
SOL testing is underway and will continue well into May. Also, AP Testing will begin on Wednesday, May 4. To view the schedule for our SOL and AP tests, please use this link: WHS - Testing Schedule Students taking SOL tests at Woodgrove must bring their Chromebook (fully charged) along with their charger. Please contact Ms. Justine Jarvis, our Testing Coordinator, with any questions. Justine.Jarvis@lcps.org
In April, we hosted a beautiful prom for our students – the first Woodgrove could host in several years. Many thanks to our Junior Class Officers, and our Junior Class Sponsors, Ms. Leslie and Ms. King, for their outstanding efforts to provide this memorable prom for our Juniors and Seniors. What a refreshing experience to see our students enjoy this traditional high school event!
During this first week of May, our school musical will take the stage on Wednesday, May 4, for opening night. I encourage all families and community members to see our upcoming performances of SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical. This play, which includes music from such artists as Cyndi Lauper, Plain White T’s, Steven Tyler, John Legend, and many more, will be performed on May 4, 5, 6, and 7 at 7 PM, and May 7 at 2 PM. This is the first time this show will be performed in Loudoun and it promises to be an enjoyable experience for all!
Also, Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week will be celebrated the first week of May. A heartfelt and tremendous thank you to our teachers and staff for their incredible efforts this year. This year has not been without its own challenges and I am grateful for their optimism and the steadfast efforts they have dedicated to our school. This celebration of staff will run from May 2 through May 6, and I hope students, parents, and the community will take time during this week to share their gratitude for what our teachers and staff members provide all of us.
The next month and a half will be a busy time for our Seniors. Senior Capstone projects begin on Monday, May 23. If you have any questions regarding this program, please contact Dr. Cuozzo at Christopher.Cuozzo@lcps.org Also, the last day for Seniors is Friday, June 3. The Senior Awards Ceremony will be Thursday, June 9, beginning at 9:30 AM. The Senior Panoramic Picture and the Senior Luncheon will follow the awards ceremony. The Senior Community Awards will be held Sunday, June 12, at 6 PM. Students and families will receive additional information as these events near.
Graduation is set for Friday, June 17, at 8 AM, in our stadium. Seniors must arrive to school by 6:30 AM. We will have practices leading up to graduation so Seniors will be aware of what to expect and where they need to be. Additional information will be shared with Seniors and their parents/guardians regarding more specific graduation plans. For those family members unable to attend, the graduation will be live-streamed. Anyone with questions should contact our Senior Class Sponsor, Ms. Brianne Allis at Brianne.Allis@lcps.org
The awards ceremony for grades 9, 10, and 11 will be Thursday, June 2, beginning at 10 AM. Information will be sent to parents/guardians of those students recognized at the ceremony. Please contact Mr. Jeff Schutte, our Student Activities and Engagement Coordinator, with any questions. Jeff.Schutte@lcps.org
It is an exciting time at Woodgrove – thank you for your continued support of our students, staff, and the Woodgrove community.
