Principal's Update
Brent Elementary Weekly Newsletter
March 2 - 6
Last week at Brent, we had a great time! Each morning after I finish our daily announcements, I walk around the building to visit each classroom. In each of the classrooms, I am able to see learning already starting! Some classrooms have begun their Morning Meeting, which is part of the Responsive Classroom philosophy that many of our team is trained. This daily activity allows students to begin their day on a positive note, share feelings, and connect as a classroom community. Watching these meetings is one of my favorite parts of my job.
Last Monday, we hosted our first-ever Parent Literacy Workshop. It was a big success! Thank you to all parents, family members, and staff members that were able to attend. Our literacy team is already looking forward to planning next year's event.
This Friday, students will listen to classroom presentations from COCA (Council on Child Abuse). Some of the topics covered include; learning to recognize potentially dangerous situations, learn about bullying and internet safety, and strategies for preventions.
I look forward to another great week at Brent! As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
Thank you,
Ms. Baker

Rep. Sedrick Denson to talk about EdChoice - March 4th
With the help of kindergarten parent and community activist Jaime Rea we have been able to secure Sedrick Denson, State Representative for the 33rd District for the Ohio House of Representatives, to come to our next elementary PTA meeting on 3/4 at 7 PM in the Brent cafeteria. Mr. Denson would love the opportunity to meet his constituents & local educators to talk about his thoughts and actions regarding Ed Choice.
Obviously this affects more than Elementary PTA. It would be of great help if you could all share this. I am encouraging people to RSVP to my Facebook event page if possible so we can get an accurate count of who is coming. The first part of the meeting will be a brief time for elementary PTA business; then we will follow up and end our time with Mr. Denson. Light refreshments will be served. Please let me know if you have any questions. See the Facebook event page link below.

PTA Carnival
This year's PTA carnival will be held at Whitaker Elementary on Saturday, March 7, from 11am-3pm. We need lots of volunteers to work games and concessions along with people to help set up the night before and clean up immediately afterward. Games are simple, and instructions will be provided. Teen volunteers are welcome to help in concessions, to paint faces, and to run games! Sign up online at http://tinyurl.com/ftcarnival2020
If you can't be there to help in person, please consider donating items for the cake walk, bake sale, or ring-a-goody game. Baked goods can be dropped off in the elementary school offices on Friday, March 6, before 3pm or at Whitaker on Saturday, March 7, between 10:30-11am. You can drop off ring-a-goody items (juice boxes, pop cans, Pringles, canned goods like Spaghetti O's, etc.) in the elementary offices anytime between now and March 6. Thank you for all that you do to support our Finneytown Elementary Schools!
If you have any questions about volunteering, please contact Stephanie Haarlammert at ptacarnivalvolunteers@gmail.com or text 513-295-2677. General carnival questions should be directed to carnival chair April Statt at april.statt@gmail.com. Thanks again!

Counselor's Corner - Mrs. Rouse
Welcome to March! It's hard to believe that spring is right around the corner. February's social-emotional learning focused on the importance of kindness, empathy, and problem-solving. Students learned the difference between tattling and reporting with Julia Cook's, A Bad Case of Tattle Tongue. We will continue conversations about tattling and encourage students to try and solve small problems on their own. This week, Brent will welcome presenters from the Council on Child Abuse on Friday, March 6th. They will teach students about bullying and ways to handle a bullying situation. Feel free to contact me at any time if you have any questions or concerns.
