This week at the pool...
KMSC news for 7/9 - 7/15
A Pool Fourth Was a Hit!
We had an amazing community Fourth at the pool!
There was food, crafts, pool races, and a whole lot of laughter all afternoon!
Many thanks to everyone who helped make it a great day, especially our socials director Sherri Spritzer! She bought all the crafts and other supplies and organized the activities.
Special thanks, too, to the Macomber family for loaning the flamingoes to us for the day. Michele Macomber and Marion Cornell want you to know you may use them anytime and ask only that you replace any flamingo you damage. (They're available from Target.)
To get a sense of the fun, please explore the photo montage below by Sherri (first link) and the video by Amie Wohlfarth (second link).
At right, (L-R) Moshe Lehman and Shimmy Sicherman tackle the balloon toss.
Final Home Swim Meet Is This Sunday
The pool will be opening at about noon on Sunday, July 9, after the Kemp Mill Kangaroos host the Twinbrook Ducks in their final home swim meet of the summer.
As with all home meets, the lifeguards will be up in the chairs sooner if possible. It all depends on how quickly the deck area is put back in order for general admission.
While you're waiting to cool off in our pool, you can grab lunch from the Kangaroo Kafe. Burgers, hot dogs, and lot of other yummy snacks will be on the menu.
If you're still wondering why team events have to disrupt your swimming, here's a quick explanation: fun + opportunity = income.
Whenever the swim team hosts a meet at home, the Kangaroo Kafe (which is not our pool Snack Bar, in case you're wondering) opens for business. It makes a lot of money cooking up and selling delicious breakfasts, lunches and snacks at morning meetings, and dinners and snacks at evening meets.
Every penny the team makes then gets plowed into the team operations, helping to defray operating costs that your pool dues might otherwise support.
So, home meets are not only more convenient for parents who don't have to drive all over the county after work on weeknights or -- literally -- before breakfast Saturday or Sunday mornings (if you've never been a swim team parent, this story will help you appreciate the convenience comment); they're also big moneymakers for the team.
And as any 'Roo can tell you, they're a LOT of fun! Bonus: our kids learn how to swim, strive for excellence and function in a team.
It's a win-win for every member of the pool!
It's Pizza Night TONIGHT
We've got another Pizza Night at the Pool TONIGHT, July 9, during rafting!
We'll be selling Ben Yehuda pizzas for $3 slice, $5 for two slices and $20 for an entire pie, cash or credit (a transaction fee will apply for the latter), poolside from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. or while supplies last.
Please volunteer to help with picking up the pizzas at Ben Yehuda's or with selling them at the pool at this Sign-up Genius.
Next Ladies Night is a Week Away
The next Ladies Night will be Tuesday, July 18, 7 p.m.-10 p.m., hosted by Amie Wohlfarth, our membership director.
To RSVP, contact Amie at simplyamie831@gmail.com.
Bring a salad, appetizer, or dessert to share. Soft drinks will be provided, but you will need to bring your own wine or beer.
Cost: $5 for KMSC members, $7 for their non-member guests. No free coupons will be accepted.
