BA BAnd to Perform at City Year Opening Day

The Bryan Adams BAnd is invited to perform at the opening day for City Year. City Year is a national non-profit education organization that recruits young people to serve in urban schools for a year as additional classroom supports. The organization is in 27 cities nationwide and this year marks the first full year in Dallas.

The BA BAnd will play pep rally music outside Union Station as guests arrive. Dignitaries include former Secretary of Education and President of the Bush Center Ms. Margaret Spellings who will be speaking, a number of DISD officials including Israel Cordero, and community leaders like United Way CEO Jennifer Sampson and Celanese CEO Mark Rohr. We are expecting 200-250 guests are expected, This a great opportunity for the BA BAnd to showcase their talents in front of regional community leaders.

Hill Highlanders

Highlander athletes were in action this weekend. Volleyball teams attended the 10th Middle School Clinic at Skyline High School, hosted by Coaches Samples and Harris of Skyline and Woodrow. Thanks to DallasISD Athletics and Dallas ISD High School Coaches for spending their Labor Weekend with our teams.

The first official Cross Country Meet for Middle School teams was held at Norbuck Park hosted by the Dallas Coaches Association. Thanks to their coach, Mrs. Munguia.

Destination Bryan Adams - DBA

Our first meeting of the new school year is Wednesday, September 9th in the Bryan Adams Library from 6:30 - 7:30pm. Special thanks to BA Librarian Chelsea Wells and Principal Kastl and his staff for hosting us! These meetings offer a great opportunity to get to know your fellow DBAers, put some faces with the names we see online and of course, to discuss how we can best effect continued progress in all our schools. Future meetings will also be in the BA Library on October 7th and November 4th before we rotate to the Gaston and then Hill libraries for our meetings.

We welcome anyone to attend - parents, students, faculty, administrators and community members. Our only ground rule is that we keep the discussion positive and constructive and that we do our best to close at 7:30 pm as we respect everyone's precious time to come meet. If you have additional questions or want to discuss a topic further, Dr. Hughes, Trustee Dan Micciche and Lane Shannon are usually available after the meeting to chat.

We'll see you on Wednesday - Go Cougar Country!
Lane Shannon and Jo Anne Hughes
