Happy March Husky Families!
It is hard to believe we are almost to the 4th quarter. There are many things on the horizon, and I would like to make sure you have these on your radar.
The end of the quarter for students will be Thursday, March 4th. Please be sure to work with your students to ensure they have everything completed so they can relax and have a restful Spring Break. We are hopeful this will be a time for families to connect and enjoy the sunshine, walk on the beach or play in the snow.
On March 15, 2021 at 6 pm via Zoom, the District will host a Community Input Meeting to assist with selecting the new principal for Homer Middle School. If you are not aware, I was offered and said yes to be the Assistant Superintendent for the KPBSD effective July 1, 2021. I will complete my principalship this school year, and my last day will be June 4, 2021.
Another item to have on your calendars is the State Assessment PEAKS. The testing window is March 29 through April 16. Specific dates for 7th and 8th grade content will be posted as soon as the calendar is finalized. Students will take Science, Math and English Language Arts. Please let us know if you will be absent during this time so we can schedule a time for make-ups.
The final item I would like for you to know is Track will begin March 29. It is our hope to have a regular season. Please encourage your student to participate in track. It is a great way to connect with others, be outside and get some exercise. Middle School athletics are a great way for students to be involved.
I want to thank you for everything you do to make HMS great. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any suggestions on what we can do better.

The State still has a travel health advisory. Testing after travel still remains a very important tool for the monitoring and management of COVID in our community.
If you travel out of State, the State of Alaska Public Health and Kenai Peninsula Borough School District asks that you do the following:
1) Have a test at the airport as you return (especially important with the variants)
2) Stay home if you are ill
3) Repeat the test 5-14 days later
4) Wear a mask, physically distance, use good hand hygiene and consider strict physical distancing for 5 days
