Tips for 1:1 iPad Integration - October 13, 2015

Spooky STEM

Remember that Friday, October 30 is our first STEM focused day. This month we will focus on Spooky STEM projects.

Below is a link to a Dropbox folder of lesson ideas that fit this theme. Feel free to take parts of these lessons and make them fit your students.I am available at any time to help you in the planning or executing of your STEM activities. There are suggested grade levels on all of the lessons, but we can certainly adapt them up or down to fit all of you. I will continue to add materials that I find to this folder throughout the year.

Also if you need help gathering materials, let me know and I will do my best to help!

Digital Citizenship Lessons

I know that many of you do not have your iPads in the classroom yet, but that does not mean you can't start teaching digital citizenship. Please remember that the expectation is for every teacher to teach one lesson per month. We are in October now, so you should be planning your second lesson of the year.

Here are the October lessons I am suggesting. I think it might make sense to start looking at how to search for information. For K-2, try "ABC Searching" or "Using Keywords." For 3-5, I would highly recommend "The Key to Keywords."

Remember that it is my goal for all of you to be certified digital citizenship educators by Common Sense Media by the end of this year. If you let me know when you teach the lessons, I will know when you are ready to apply for this certification!

Looking Forward to Parent Conferences

As you have parents come in for conferences, think about these 2 things:

  1. Share Edmodo with you parents. Every child has a unique parent code. The parents can use this code to create an Edmodo account and keep up with what their child is doing!
  2. Share Common Sense Media with your parents. They will be very happy to know that we are teaching digital citizenship here at school. Even better yet, they might use the site to teach a little digital citizenship at home - or at least to check out tv shows, movies, video games, etc for age appropriateness.
