Mirror of Water

Mirror of Water

People say water is blue,

But they are wrong.

Sky makes the water blue.

Water reflects sky making it

Turquoise, purple, and aqua

Like misty clouds.

Water slips through

Curious fingers

Like dewy fog.

Water reflects the trees,

Dyeing itself in earthen

Green, brown, and black

Like the land.

Water slips through

Curious fingers

Like smooth pebbles.

Water reflects the sun

And the sun tie-dyes

The water making it a scorching

Red, yellow, and orange

Like the sunrise.

Water slips through

Curious fingers

Like rays of sparking sun.

Water slips through

Curious fingers

Like rays of sparkling sun.

Water isn’t blue,

It is a mirror

Changing colors like

A canvas.

Water slips through

Curious fingers

Like melted glass.

Glass from the sea

That is the water.

Zoe

Zoe is in seventh grade and loves to write poetry and fiction. She first started writing and illustrating in kindergarten; her first story ever is called “Spring Is Here.” She still has it. Zoe started writing poetry after reading Where the Sidewalk Ends. One of her favorite poets is Maya Angelou, the writer of her favorite poem (currently), "Still I Rise." When she is not scribbling down ideas on spare napkins, she can be found up in her room playing her saxophone or at the pool swimming laps.
